Have owned an S for three years now. Fantastic car. Are you planning to buy a used one or order new ? As the secondhand prices are so strong, compare with the price of a new one using the Porsche configurator. You can save a lot of £££ on a new car by not ordering options that you don’t want.

The V6 engine makes performance effortless and every journey an occasion. I note your description as a luxury car rather than a sports car. The S has plenty of performance for everyone in the real world. A GTS or Turbo is overkill. The 2.0 base is missing the point, rather like buying a Ford Mustang with the 4-cylinder instead of the V8.

Some thoughts on options

- Seats are very personal. I’m happy with the standard ones.
- Pan roof / sun roof. The forums are full of complaints from owners whose roof leaks. Don’t bother.
- For best ride quality get the smallest wheels you can find.
- Surround camera brings peace of mind when parking. Essential for me.
- The acoustic glass is rare but worth the extra for refinement, apparently – I don’t have it and probably should have ordered it. It also weighs less than standard glass
- The standard exhaust sounds sporty. Can’t see a benefit in paying more.

A rather important question is how much do you want to pay Harvey?
I was looking at £50k for a 3 year old car but with all the benefits of a new car, the budget has crept up.

I was in a similar position to you last yr Harvey. In the end I opted for a 3yo Turbo @ 60k because frankly the deal on offer was vastly superior to cheaper cars. They are silly capable cars, though the other bloke is correct - the Turbo is hugely overkill !
