I'm in London and have heard of two Macans being stolen last couple days. Low mileage, late models. One had less than 1k miles on it... (the other I don't know).

Always thought that SUV theft focussed around Land Rovers and Mercedes. But both the above were very very targeted thefts, they just wanted to take THAT car, nothing opportunistic.

I'm aware car crime is through the roof now, but curious as to whether we're seeing Macans as being the new Range Rovers in terms of theft? Or just coincidence?

I guess the keyless tech on a Porsche is whatever VW have, it is probably only a matter of time tuntil the thieves develop the tech to be able to steal these cars.

I'd check the Macan forum.

I’m sure a read a article that the existing Macan can’t be sold in Europe after a certain date this year due due it not having the correct security system and something about the existing chassis/ structure not being adaptable to the new security regulations.

Will see if I can find article.

Awful feature.

Macan stolen in deepest, darkest, gloucestershire last week too, appears targeted given the location. Not really heard of them being targeted before. In the space of a couple of days there was also a Golf R and an S5 gone, maybe a new VAG vulnerability?

ETA: all taken with keys, after entering the property.

This is great! Some of us simply don’t want keyless.

Or lane departure warnings, sign recognition or blindspot detection etc.

Mine has it, and two demos ive borrowed did, too. Got used to it on our ID3, so added it. Like it: I carry a "man bag" as I have to carry health related stuff, so key never leaves its pouch in said bag. It's just as much risk as any other car, so I've got front and rear camera, plus tracker, so it'll get found somewhere sometime. And if the cameras work, i'll have the scrotes faces on my phone

You ordered a new Macan today? Are the order books still open? I thought with the new Macan-E beeing unveiled in less than a week the orders where closed for the H1 III.

I thought lane assist, amongst other things, was mandatory on all new cars in the UK from July 2022, in line with the EU?

Advanced emergency braking systems, intelligent speed assistance, emergency lane‐keeping systems, driver drowsiness and attention warning, advanced driver distraction warning and reversing detection) Quote from the internet, without much research.

There’s 2 options for lane assist and both are extras. There may a basic option that’s standard.
Tbh the 2 extra options are pretty standard on most higher end cars.
The macan we bought has a lot less equipment than the GLC for a lot more money.
But my wife liked the looks of the macan more!

Hey,

Over on macanforums.co.uk we've had a few members (in London) report their car stolen in recent months.

My neighbour had his T stolen in the summer - luckily the thieves didn't think to check for their Apple Air tag and they were able to follow them and retrieve the car. (The tracker told them it was being stolen but the thieves managed to block the signal so it couldn't find the car!).

My GTS was parked opposite his T at the time... very scary.

We couldn't figure out how they got in - his car also does not have keyless entry (I didn't spec it either) and it appears targeted - they knew they could get into the car. Thankfully they've not been back for it or mine - was about 6 months ago now! The only conclusion we could come too was that he left the car unlocked and somehow the thieves knew...?

Only on new models built after 7th July 2024 is it mandatory.

From WBAC

'Please note: Although the legislation states that speed limiters must be fitted to new cars, it does not necessarily require them to be activated. Furthermore, as we will explain later in the article, the definition of ‘speed limiter’ is flexible – and not all devices will physically slow down a vehicle when the driver reaches the legal speed limit.'
