I have always fancied something a bit more classic, i prefer cars when they weren't computers, my current love is a classic porsche, dream car would be an RS version however out of price bracket. Looking at around £15K

My other love is TVR so its pretty much a Chimera or a Porsche.

It seems there are soo many different types so a bit stuck on where to begin

What can the masses at piston heads suggest considering budget or shall i wait till i can put more capital in? or are there websites that offer this information

as always many thanks for your contribution

If I had £15K right now I would probably buy a Cayman... I think most decent aircooled 911's are our of your reach, including 964s.. sure you can get something for around £14-£16K but it will require attention and money spending. If a Cayman is not your thing then 996s are incredible value right now.

15k?

Buy the best 911SC you can find but be very careful. Rust is not your friend!

As a long term Porsche fan (past 968CS owner) I had 10K to spend last summer.

I considered Boxsters/968/944 but it was a fun car so I wanted something fun and these seemed a little too polished and almost daily drivers.

I then looked at Chimaeras and after looking at 6 in a week I brought the one I have now. It hasnt broken down, its plenty fast and makes a fab noise.

However, if I would have had 15K to spend I would have looked at a 911, esp a 964 smile

Not to turn this into a TVR forum but how are you getting on with the Chimera, any niggles ? did you try many first?

Maybe I have been lucky but Ive had no real issues at all. If the car is a good one they dont all break down.

Other than routine servicing and a couple of upgrades I replaced the clutch and flywheel and a new wiper park switch and thats about it really.

I did buy from a specialist so that helped and part of the deal was new out riggers but I try and use it as much as possible because they need to be used really. After a long hoon it does suffer from the hot start issue but after 10-15mins cooling it starts. There is a fix for this though. I looked at 5 or 6 in one week. The main differences were the interiors, some were shocking and needed a lot of attention. This really put me off.

I turned down a spotless red 450 in Bristol (think Guards Red) that I got inspected. It needed a little too much doing for my budget but for £10-£11K including buying the car you would have one of the best around. I still have the report and the chaps details. He was selling due to a bad back. If you are interested let me know.

I've had loads of Chimaeras (well into double figures) and only ever had one with a hot start issue - the guy I had check the car over as a routine took one look at it and said "cr@p starter motor" - I didn't believe as a receipt showed it had recently had a replacement starter motor (new from a supposed TVR parts specialist) but he was right - as soon as it was eventually replaced it started perfectly every time. smile

Interesting. Its happened twice, once after a decent hoon on a very very hot day and the other was after I arrived at a SS at Goodwood from Reading after a decent drive down smile Always thought it was due to high engine temp (fans all good by the way)
