This is my 1997 993 Carrera S which I have owned for 9 years. My first Porsche was a 1995 993 Carrera, then I progressed to a 996 C4S and then a 996 turbo. As good as the 996's were I always missed the looks, noise and build quality of a 993 and so I vowed to one day own another one. I bought my current car with the sole intention of making it personal to me, I didn't want an RS or RSR replica, I just wanted a car which was a bit lighter on it's feet, a little bit louder than standard and something which made you laugh out loud when the right road was in front of you. Basics are totally stripped interior, plexiglass all round apart from front screen, modified/lightened exhaust, lightweight battery, lightweight bucket seats with Willans harnesses, half cage, BBS LM wheels, suspension rebuild close to RS specification, aircon delete, sunroof delete, etc, etc. Result is a car which weighs 1260kg, sounds so sublime and goes like a scalded rat. Cost me 22k several years ago and would now be worth way more than that but I don't care, it's a 993 exactly how I always wanted it. Hope fellow Pistonheads can appreciate, and understand, it. Thank you

Yes, their designs, along with those of Rinspeed and Gemballa, were all penned by the same world renowned design studio, Charles & Wonder.wtdoom said:

I like your ethos, I’ve done something vaguely similar with my 3.2, the weight loss makes a huge difference.

I’m currently looking to purchase a similar ST backdate, ideally from Tuthill. Perhaps also considering commissioning one. Do let me know if anyone knows of the owner of this one or of something of comparable quality coming up for sale. It’s a real minefield out there when it comes to these backdates. This one from Tuthill is just gorgeous

9m93 RS 3.8 330bhp/300ft lbs engine combined with Singer UK agent building to full RS Clone with ridiculous attention to detail. One of the most engaging cars I've ever driven.
Having said that find myself agreeing with Cmoose other than the air cooled sub zero cool character/experiemce a 987 Cayman/Boxster does exactly the same thing dynamically (probably miles better TBH) for a fraction of the price and 987 Caymans (which I've always disliked styling wise) starting to look really v.cool as they get older or am I losing it?
£150,000 build cost v £15000 for a lovely gen 1 Cayman S
This vid of a 996 GT3 that has had a huge amount of work on it by Manthey is interesting to say the least....eye watering expense by the sounds of it. According to the owner it’s got a 4.2 ltr 523 hp engine and weighs 1210 kg Body is largely Carbon and Kevlar.

Great looking car! Not sure I’d kick that out of bed for a Cayman S at whatever the price difference.
Who is the Singer UK agent out of interest ?
Greg Cranmer at http://heritageautowerks.com are Singer's UK's only agent as far as I'm aware. Who is the Singer UK agent out of interest ?
Glorious as she is but mint green or maybe gulf blue and take off the RS badging and this air cooled would be perfect for the rest of time IMO. Off to buy lottery ticket for mod fund
