Hi all, I have a spare engine from a 912/356, and it runs ok but is a bit down on power (and presumably compression) which is why it was removed from the car in the first place.

Is there anywhere you can recommend for getting it rebuilt?

Or is it the sort of thing any competent air cooled mechanic can do? If so, is there a supplier of parts for these engines in the UK?

Thanks,

Here is your man.

Martin Reed has maintained all the 911's I have owned.

He is the ultimate perfectionist and I recommend him to you without hesitation.

Well known to Porsche Club Great Britain members.

I see Dave at DSD Motorwerks build one of them up every month, and depending on you budget will do a simple build through to concourse prep with plated, powder coated and vapour blasted parts to OEM spec. Based in Billericay. His number is 01245 237091

Sort of, just off J36 on the M6 anyway. Do a search on him or his brother & you'll find out all you need to know

Andy Prill is the best 356 mechanic in the country, is not cheap though.

Wrong! And not about the cost.
I know probably the top four mechanics in the country, and Prill is not one of them. I have yet to see one of his 356's finish a race!
If it is an ear ache your after, he is your man.

There are quit a few places that can do this job. Unit 11 in Warrington www.unit11.co.uk, who do lots of aircooled rebuilds for road & motorsport and Jaz in Wembley (Steve Winter's travelling around Europe in his 356 "Dolly" at present) are a couple that spring to mind, at opposite ends of the country.
