Do the 964's wheel arches have to be rolled for 17 and 18 inch wheels?

In answer....

I've seen 18 inch Krones to another 964 and had a front trial fitted on mine. Albeit with original shocks.

I got the shocks and coils from Gert at Carnewal in Belgium. He was selling the 964, B6/H&R set up far cheaper than anyone in the UK was offering. Indeed, he was - and still is - charging 1300 euros for them. Everyone else charges about 1300 pounds.

Unfortunately, as my car is an early one, it has the old rear shock mounts & he'd sold out of those. So, we had to wait until Bilstein made another batch of B6s.

As far as I know, the arches do not need to be rolled. To be on the safe side, I chose 255 rear tyres, rather than 265 I'd originally planned to fit which would be pretty tight.

JAZ have a full suspension and wheel alignment rig and so I'm sure that they'll be able to get everything neatly packaged. They don't seem too bothered about the job.

I'll know for sure by this Thursday. smile

Suspension and wheels are fitted and, AFAIUI, there don't seem to be any issues. Trouble is, I'm on the other side of London at the moment and I won't get up to JAZ until Friday.

They also have some other jobs to do. Including fitting a Steve Wong chip. I've arranged to call them on Wednesday. By then, they'll know if there are any set up problems.

I've already asked them to email me a couple. They say that the wheels are, 'very gold'. Hopefully, they should look good, bearing in mind the car's colour. If not, it's off to the paint shop with them. smile

I've just received this from JAZ. I've emailed them about clearance. Awaiting reply.

The fronts are 18x225x40s. The rears, 18x255x35. I don't have a photo of the rears yet. Which is a pity.

I'm toying with the idea of having the roll hoop stripped to bare metal and lacquered, a la the latest targa. Though, I would then have to respray the Krones.

I can't seem to stop tinkering with the car at the moment. Ironic, as I had originally decided to keep it stock. Things seem to have got a little out of hand. smile

tinkering with wheels then on the 964 will be minor in comparison!

I've not had much time to drive the car as I'm currently in California. I did drive it home - about 20 miles and it felt great and performed far better than with the original, 25 year old suspension. JAZ did about 50 miles with the new set up and reported that there were no clearance issues whatsoever.

Front: 225/40/18
Rear: 255/35/18

that looks stunning! well done!
great news on clearance despite the rear arch especially looking very very snug to the tyre.

minor note...
whats with the front tyre being further forwards in the arch, to the right in the pic, more than the left!

Cali, not a bad life. enjoy!

265 rears would have been more of a problem. As for the fronts, It's more a combination of camera angle, wheel angle, the fact the the car is slightly lower in the front and the tyre being in shadow at the rear of the arch.
