In the early 1970s, my Dad was a driver for a 'posh taxi' business, and he says he drove Led Zep around a few times. One time, he was sent to the South of France where he was given the keys to one of Peter Grant's Porsches and told to drive it back to London. He says he took Mum along for the ride (maybe that's why she married him?!).

So I thought I'd actually google it this crazy story. See what comes up for "Peter Grant porsche"...

I asked Dad if the Porsche in his story was maroon. No son... it was black...

Does anyone know a good source of information that would help me find the black Porsche that Peter Grant owned in the 70s? It would be nice to find it. Get a photo for Dad and his story smile

I do remember an article in Porsche Post years ago about this. It was definitely at black 911 Turbo. Peter Grant came along to some local Porsche Club events and was in contact with the local organiser. He sadly died shortly after this and I can remember an ad for the car being sold as his car. From memory it had a burgundy leather interior.

I am not sure if you can do a Search through the Porsche club archive if so you light find it. It was a very low mileage car. I am guessing this was in the mid 1990's.

100% right. I remember that. OP, that car is a 959...

I used to see John Bonham regularly at Cap Ferrat in the '80s. He had a boat on the same jetty as ours

Well, the important thing is that you were lucky enough to have a boat moored up in the south of France-
and whilst there you sometimes saw John Bonham (before he died).

I actually wish I were old enough at that time to know how important he and his band were in the world of music. It wasn't until 5 years after he died that realised that. A unique drummer...such power...double bass drums....

But anyway...back to Peter Grant's 911. It was the subject of a couple of articles covering its restoration. I nearly bought it pre restoration, without knowing its history. IIRC it mouldered away in an eccentric person's collection and was offered, with high miles as in a tatty state, for around the £10k mark.

I have traced back the history of my black 1977 930 turbo and it's original registration was BAD 1.
The front and rear spoilers have been changed before my ownership otherwise original. Photo attached.

Love this thread .. I'm a huge Led Zeppelin fan, but never knew the Grant-Porsche connection.
That's a very nice piece of history you have there, congrats!

I've just come across Beej's post and thought you and your dad might like to know we bought the 911 Turbo that was owned by Peter Grant and had the plate BAD1 (including all the documents to verify the history) in 2002 and we still have it. Here's a few pics for your dad - not the best photos I'm afraid as mostly it's been stored in our garage and rarely comes out. You might be interested to know it still only has 11,000 on the clock smile

I think you probably win the best first post ever trophy.

I’ve got an original 911 Turbo once owned by a member of Led Zeppelin with only 11 thousand miles in about 50 years.

Congratulations and I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks! smile It wouldn't let me post the other pics last night - something to do with being a new member - but here's one of the cherry red leather interior. In case anyone's interested It's a 1980 930 Turbo and the plate BAD 1 was apparently bought for Peter Grant by the members of the band Bad Company, who, for those who might not know, he also managed.
