Which fuel for a 964
Discussion
When I had my 964 C2 Targa I usually filled up with normal unleaded from Shell and then every 4th fill I would put in Shell V-Power (at the time).
Don't noticed any performance gain but thought that putting in the Optimax would assist with any cleaning additives that they put in the petrol.

At least? You can't get less than RON95 anywhere these days can you?
I guess the OP is asking does he go for standard SUL RON95 or higher rated 'premium' RON97/98
Sorry if i offended you with my intend to help, let me rephrase:I guess the OP is asking does he go for standard SUL RON95 or higher rated 'premium' RON97/98
The 964 was designed for RON 95, even the Turbo.

No offence caused, nice reply.
So would RON97/98 bring any benefit over RON95, given: the 964 was designed for RON 95, even the Turbo.
The ECU was originally set up for 95RON. So theoretically can't take advantage of higher RON. Whereas modern Porsche engines are set up for higher RON but can 'adapt' to run lower RON when necessary (certainly the case on the boxsters I owned). The 964 ECU can't 'adapt' to the fuel available. So would RON97/98 bring any benefit over RON95, given: the 964 was designed for RON 95, even the Turbo.
However, some might say that the additives in the fuel of higher RON would still be beneficial to the engine. Improve its lifetime even if it doesn't improve the performance? Those that have had their 964s 'chipped' and mapped on a rolling road will mostly likely have had it done while running higher RON. So in those cases they'll need to use the good stuff.
Personally, I've not noticed any difference in performance (or economy) when using 97+ RON instead of the normal 95RON in my 964. My 964 still has the '95RON' sticker on the petrol flap.
My manual says "minimum RON 95", and www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/.../E_... implies RON 98 for UK cars.
