Another vote for Precision Porsche/Impact - Sam who runs the bodyshop is a great guy and the team do some great work! Often see a lot of Munich legends cars in there too.Need to decide whether a 1 stop shop or a project management role using different specialists for body / paint / engine / refit etc. If the former, Add Tuthills and Historika to the shortlist. Think Neil bainbridge is oily bits not bodywork? And as per usual advice get on DDK-online. Everything has been seen and done multiple times over.

There is only one guy that I trust implicitly. He is the best but your friend would have to wait three years before he could touch it
Can I have another clue, please? KEVS500 said:
I would recommend a visit to Canford Classics and a chat with Alan before making a final decision
A positive experience there for you then, I take it?squirejo said:

A good question – ideally it would a ‘one stop shop’ project. Thanks for the recommendations. Thanks for the recommendations folks - a lot of love for Precision Porsche, so they're definitely on the list!
Time to take lots of photos and send some emails I think! The car's not roadworthy so it would need trailering so ideally I'd want some of these guys to come and see the car to see if they could give an outline estimate of what work was required but I'd imagine they'd all say they'd need the car on site to strip it before being sure?

Hi Strugs, I know of a complete car restoration firm who would suit your friend. Only issue is he is 4 hours from Dover. Complete one stop shop for all work (complete bare metal strip down, engine and gearbox overhaul. The only area outsourced is painting). Very favourable rates and lots of experience with classic 911 Porsche. I'm sure collection and delivery could be arranged if so required. Only issue is there maybe a sizeable wait, I would have to confirm current availability.

OK, brilliant. Feel free to PM me with any details if you didn't want to post on here? Thanks! Strugs said:

I've got a friend who has a 1970's 911 that's sat for quite some time and now needs a full body resto, and mechanical rebuild..
Who's rated currently? Autofarm? Canford? BS Motorsports?
Preferably southern UK based..
Why the preference for UK? I had a car rebuilt out of Hamburg by an engine builder who used to head up Porsche Motorsport NA. Did a wonderful job and cost me a third less. DM if you want his details.Who's rated currently? Autofarm? Canford? BS Motorsports?

Hi Strugs, just spoke to him and in principle he said he wouldn't be able to start for approx. 1 year (next June) and if it is a full restoration (Body work, welding/fabrication, full interior re-trim, paint, engine, gearbox, full chassis...) it could take upto 1 year to complete. Besides customer cars, he currently owns a 3.0RS and 964RS, and has owned plenty of other 60's and 70's 911's so knows AC 911's inside out. He has impeccable standards and is meticulous in what he does. I have seen many a rusted old barn wrecks, brought back to life by him, so no job is too big. As mentioned previously, his rates will be far more palatable than anyone in the UK. I'll go over to his workshop later and dig out some of the pictures of before and after projects he has done to give you an idea of what I am talking about.
Thanks so much! Very interested.. the timescales don't seem too unpalatable and it sounds like it would be worth the wait!Mutema said:

UK (and southern) out of preference as my friend likes to make regular-ish visits to see progress into his cars (he's not one of those customers though!) and it would be a tad more practical to be UK-based. Not beyond the realms of possibility though, so message sent! As promised here are a few pics.
A few of the cars he has restored:
Before and after XK Jag White car top right to Yellow car top left:
Some AC 911's he has done:
XK No.9 Before and after:
A few of the cars in is currently working on today including MkII (Full resto) and Healey 3000 (Bigger carbs 1.75" to 2" including boring ports to suit.

Cracking, thank you! Seems like he'd be good to get a quote from. I think our plan is to get some quotes from some of the UK-based guys mentioned on here, along with a 'worst case' list of work required and then send that list over to him along with the pics of the car (when I get round to taking some!)..Thanks again!
Like STRUGS was, I'm looking for a good classic 911 restorer to go to for a one-stop-shop full restoration on a 1970 2.2S that belongs to a relative. The car is in the south, so southern UK preferred as it's in a somewhat disassembled state right now. Anybody have any further recommendations? The contact that I've had with OPC Classic Partners has been pretty disappointing so far. I've also heard of Early911 - not a one stop solution I believe, but anyone have experience of their work?
