Hi All

I have taken my 1989 3.2 Carrera for a MOT and it has failed on emissions (Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content excessive (7.3.B.1a)

As this is my first Porsche can anyone advise me on this matter, is this a common problem and the best way to fix,

Many Thanks

Mo

I had the same issue on a 1973 2.7 RS - made the mistake of not warning it up and it arrived cold at the MOT centre about 1/2 a mile from start up.

I argued with the centre - we agreed to differ and I re booked it in elsewhere (1/2 an hour away) and it passed fine and has done last 3 times - not sure if this maybe your problem ?

Good luck smile

It has failed on a high Carbon monoxide reading. To pass the reading needs to be <=3.5%. What was your reading?

Hi, the garage never let me know the reading, they had just told me it failed on emissions, I will find out, the car is still in the garage as the car had been left with them and the MOT had been done on Saturday.

The reading should recorded on the test form iirc. If they've done the test cold as rsvp has said then they are playing games maybe looking to make a few quid on faultfinding and fixing an 'imaginary' vacum leak, retest etc ...

Cheers for your advice, I will run the engine for a bit and then ask the garage to re-test the emissions.

Many Thanks

Yes, get it chuffing hot with a good thrash and it should pass, if not you could take it to a specialist and ask them to make sure it is running fine and get them to take it to their friendly MOT station...it is amazing how it will then pass.

I echo what the others have advised. It needs an "Italian tune up" just prior to the MOT. This should not be a gentle pootle on the way to the testing station. You need to get it hot then run it good and hard. Red line it in each gear etc.
