Hi, just bought a 993 C4. Thought I’d have some winter tyres as it’s winter in UK. Must be N rated to comply with Porsche Warranty. Easy to find Pirelli sottozero 3 for the fronts 205/50 R17 N2 rated. Impossible to find Pirelli for the rears 255/40 ZR17 and no other manufacturer seems to make N rated winter tyres in this size.. can’t believe I am unique in uncovering this..?Am I really left to only be able to fit warranty compliant winter tyres on the front ?

You have a warranty on a 993 with an OPC? There is much debate on N rated tyres. Some people claim it will invalidate your insurance if you drive a Porsche on anything but. That is piffle of the highest order. As long as they are the correct size and speed rating they will be perfectly legal. On that basis, unless you have an OPC warranty on your 993, then buy whichever winter tyres you like in the correct size and don't hamper yourself looking for N rated.

If OP has recently bought his 993 from an OPC they can come with a warranty

Yes the warranty provided by the OPC is conditional upon having N rated tyres but the OPC is unable to source winter tyres for 17 rims. Agree with your sentiment entirely but I don’t think it unreasonable not to want to invalidate my warranty by trying to install winter tyres for winter

Yep, so the OPC is investigating the supply of different rims for which there are winter tyres available, not that I really wanted to buy another set of rims..I guess It is easier to run 16s rather than 18s on a C4?

I believe 18s are fine. I have 19s but the rear arches have been rolled to accommodate them.

Think I solved it with this helpful Porsche doc showing all approved winter tyres for various Porsche models https://www.porsche.com/filestore.aspx/default.pdf...

So I bought some Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme even though not N rated they are approved for fitment
