Thought I'd answered, but it appears not! It was a fabulous car to look at and polish with the best rear end I have ever caressed.
But was a really dull car to drive. Dynamically pretty whale like and the turbo-lag was to die for! For me a really unpleasant thing to drive!

Hi Bert - always loved the look of the 930 Turbo and quite fancy one - I had a 3.2 Carerra (G50) and really liked it - what didn’t you like about the Turbo ?

Cheers Bert - you are not the first person to say this - it's such a shame, as I think that they look the absolute dogs nuts - as you say great for a polish But was a really dull car to drive. Dynamically pretty whale like and the turbo-lag was to die for! For me a really unpleasant thing to drive!

. My 3.2 is fun to drive but I imagine bad turbo lag (do you mean actual lag, or the transition from off to on boost as revs rise?) and enough power to overwhelm grip would be an interesting mix.But was a really dull car to drive. Suprised 'dull' is the adjective though

Interesting,
I really enjoyed mine,it certainly wasn’t dull.
Very difficult to drive quickly but once you get familiar with them they are pretty exciting to drive in my opinion.
Cheers

Sadly it was very dull. I did try and anticipate when you'd want power and try to accelerate early, but it never worked for me.I can well understand why they get modified!
To be fair mine was modified and the power delivery was vastly improved over a standard one.Great cars.

Not a great deal, full exhaust system and wastgate pipe, turbo smart wastegate,1 bar boost spring and a better inter cooler if I remember correctly.
It drove well and people seemed to love it wherever I went.
All the best.
Kevin
Thanks Kevin, I’m not surprised everyone loved it - it’s a lovely thing. Assume the mods were to try and ease the boost in, in a more linear way ? It drove well and people seemed to love it wherever I went.
All the best.

I had a guards red 3.2 Carrera -same thing everywhere I took it people came over and smiled a lot

A 930 turbo is a timeless classic. One of the all time greats. In the real world I can understand why Bert did not gel with it. I would want a five speed with a modern turbo to completely eliminate the lag between gear changes. Make it a lot more linear. The biggest difference between the 964 3.3 and 3.6 turbo is the 3.6 does a much better job of this. With a few minor tweaks a 3.6 is on boost after every gear change. The first time I drove a 930 turbo it was not a great experience. A mate leant me his car and I took the missus around the block, must be 20 years ago now. It was on crap old rubber. I nailed it on the straight. Braked for the roundabout. Locked the fronts. Brick wall behind the roundabout. Still not sure how I managed to avoid the big accident but I had to chuck a right ignoring the roundabout and completed the maneuver unscathed. More by luck than judgement.

I’ve just sold my 3.6 Turbo - it was a lovely thing and I agree the lag on it was fine.Having massive sellers remorse
I rember the 3.0 ltr turbo well, terrible car put me off turbos until the twin turbo gt2,still prefer normally aspirated. The early turbos look great though, the 3.0 ltr has a crazy price tag now.
This was a better period car that we owned for 20 plus years, raced ,hillclimbed and thourghly trashed, the one and only factory wide body 2.7 carrera, was far nicer to drive than the turbos.

Never heard of a 2.7 carrera wide body. Are you sure it is a factory car? This was a better period car that we owned for 20 plus years, raced ,hillclimbed and thourghly trashed, the one and only factory wide body 2.7 carrera, was far nicer to drive than the turbos.
