911 blend valve

Hi all. My 1976 911s targa has a corroded rear blend valve. It was diagnosed by a Porsche OPC whilst the car was in for new ID plate (long story) and the OPC offered a complimentary vehicle check. Ive got 3 questions-hopefully someone can assist.

1. Can anyone cast some light on what the rear blend valve does. Its part of the heating/ventilation system. The whole heating system on my car is unfathomable.

2. They quoted me £929 for the valve (!!) and £380 to fit. Does anyone have any experience of this and what an independant would charge?

3. The heater in my car just has 2 settings on and off. The 3 stage fan doesnt seem to adjust and again, are these easy to fix/fit?

Any general heating/cooling system advice on these early 911’s is appreciated. The geekier the better. Thanks in advance.

IMO the early 911 heating systems look fairly simple on paper, in practice quite different.

An indie with knowledge of the earlier 911's would be my preference as heater problems are fairly common - same for the various fan blowers in the front and rear of the car.
