My mate has a couple in his workshop now. Crank is shot on one of them. Phoned Porsche to order a new one, part number now changed. They used to be £3200, now £10600 plus VAT smile. Just check it over carefully.
Wow. That's pretty steep! Are these common failure points? I've never heard of one failing...

He's done quite a lot over the years. Always number 3 that goes. Age and mileage i guess. Just something to check for really.

Are you local to the North West? Could pop over and have chat at the workshop if you like.

Thanks for the advice, certainly something I'll look into. A good PPI should cover that, I imagine?

I'm located in Oxfordshire atm, the furthest North I go for work is Lincoln so I imagine still quite far? Many thanks for the offer!

wow, that's a big price. My 993 based hot rod motor was rebuilt 2 years ago with a GT3 crank which was 3k give or take then!

Paul Stephens is a respectable dealer.....

What else to look for in particular?
Get a pre-purchase inspection!

Yep, doesn't seem that long ago that you could pick up a 964 for under £10k !
10 years ago. I glanced at a couple around that price.. I was about 19 at the time, earning decent money for the time, not a great deal by any means but enough to make me seriously consider taking out a loan and picking one up..

It would've been a stupid thing to do, all things considered, but I still kinda kick myself for not taking the plunge as even a ropey example would probably go for double what I'd have paid for it nowadays..
