Can anyone advise on the likelihood of all front engined porsches from mid 80s onwards.....say 1986 and later....having asbestos in their manufacture? I appreciate that most of these parts would have been replaced by now....but would be interested in knowing of whether asbestos parts were used in brake linings, clutch plates, heatshields, firewall etc. Any tips on an authoritative source?

No idea sorry, but are you trying to import in to Australia?

OP, if you haven't seen it you should watch this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNboAYY6G74
This is the latest 'Mighty Car Mods' episode and is relevant to you because they have recently imported (to Australia) a Datsun 240Z from Japan. They explain within the episode about the rules in Australia and, more importantly, the costs and penalties of importing a car containing asbestos. Its illuminating viewing on the topic.
They elected to bring their (previously complete, fully up and running car) into Australia without engine, box and brakes to escape the potential for inadvertently importing asbestos! Seemed pretty extreme... until you hear how much it could cost you in sample analysis and fines.....
Good luck!

Some if not all 944's used asbestos somewhere in their manufacture and there's a warning sticker near the VIN plate (my '86 951 has this). HOWEVER, I've not been able to find a definitive answer on exactly where is was used. Some say it was just the brake pads and clutch, other theories suggest is was used in some insulation. No one seems to have gotten to the bottom of this one that I've been able to find.

If anyone knows any further details on where asbestos was it would be useful to know this.
