Outright performance is not top of the list at the moment.
Good luck explaining that to 911R ....

lets not get silly, we have people quoting £250k race car builds and now you are happy with 120bhp ?
what's the BHP on the car you are doing atm ? remind me.

I have always said it's not about BHP hence why I love the 987.2 Spyder , but on todays roads I tend to over take 30+ cars a day.

better off offering on this imo, if it checks out of course but it sounds the part. As the seller stated "Impossible to replicate for our asking."

Very interesting advert! If that really is Goose's (Marcus Carniel) old race car, the guy who bought it off him had the engine rebuilt. Yet the advert states that they have had it rebuilt. confused

Am I the only who thought this thread might be about converting a 997 GT3 to be aircooled? laugh

For the avoidance of doubt, take a look at the Mk 1 996 GT3 "Clubsport" they have for sale on their website ....

Charlatans springs to mind.

Says the man who owns a 500hp road going 911 ....

hehe

As usual. you've completely missed the point of my post. That being no one buys a 2.7 RS rep or a 3.2/SC thinking they're going to outbrake, out accelerate or leave a 991 Turbo S for dead around the twisties.

If you bought an E30 M3 Evo 2, would you expect it to be as quick as, as well braked as and as grippy as an M4 GTS ?
No, of course you wouldn't, instead you'd luxuriate in it's sublime steering, wonderful spring/damper combo and it's diminutive size. Well most would, you'd probably appear on here complaining about the lack of torque, poorly chosen gear ratios, the dogleg 'box being difficult to use and the lack of modern Michelin tyres available for the 16" wheels, understeer, and the car needing a £25k rebuild because the ashtray is full ...

yikes Stupendous.

What does the engine come from - originally aircooled?

Wow! Timely thread!

I was thinking of posting this exact same thead this morning biggrin

I've had my 997.1 GT3 for over 5 years now and I am thinking of putting it up for sale to get into an air cooled.

Currently looking at 964's as I want to build something similar to Steve Rance's gorgeous car lick

Happy to let you have a go in a fake RS and see if you like it.

Promise it knocks the spots of your GT3 although not half as quick wink

Back in the UK Sept for a few days. Feel free to PM if you’d like to compare to one of the best modern Porsche’s of all time

On the basis I was less than enamoured with the two Gen 1 997 GT3’s I owned, I’m very doubtful I would.
I’d imagine the 997 platform was far more analogue, and as many have said, the 991 is just too big now.

991 is same width as 997 surprisingly. It's more the length that seems the issue, longer wheel-base removing the 911 traits we know and love

Are 964's with (working) air con common or rare as unicorn teeth?

I remember many MANY years ago looking at 964's with my brother and all the ones advertised would say something along the lines of ..... air con (assume not working) biggrin

Is this a common problem that is easily fixed?

I think creature comforts are not any air cooled’s strength especially A/C and the ventilation system! Have a very nice focused air cooled if you fancy a quick blat one day. Be interesting to see and hear on PH how you feel it compares to your GT3 actually wink
