I ran this really nice ( apart from the Cups ) 915 3.2 as a daily in the mid 2000s.
It was a low miles car, but i went right through it sorting any niggles etc.
Re the gear change, i fitted a heavier gear knob ( what a difference ) in place of the OE plastic thing ( had to cut it off ) replaced the lower bush at the base of the shifter, replaced the coupling ( between the rear seats - this made a huge difference and also drained and re filled the box with Fuchs gear oil. And omg, the difference to the change was like night and day. This was a quick one. It drove beautifully.
I stupidly sold this car ( divorce ) but then bought an 88 3.2 with the G-50 box. The extra weight of the G-50 box was imeadiatly very obvious when throwing the car around. The change was slicker, but not the vast improvement that it should have been.

I'm actually going to see a reasonably priced 911 with the 915 box at the weekend there is no noise when changing gear, grinding ect but when going from 1st to 2nd sometime you have to try and get it into gear the owner informs me what would be the most likely reason for this?
Start of the classic gearbox problem, won't go into second. New bits needed, probably synchros etc.
I'm always worried about reasonably priced 911s. Make sure you know what you are getting in to!
