Hello forum,
Since 2000 I have worked my way through a number of 911’s namely two 964’s, one 993, three 996’s, a 997 and most recently a backdated 1988 Carrera.
I now fancy an early 912 which is new territory to me.
Am I mad?
Probable budget for purchase is £45K with an annual service/repair budget of £2K.
I have seen some decent examples on carsandclassic but really want the advice of 912 owners who may talk me out of it. I did spot some posts from Dinkel and wondered if he ever took the plunge?
Cheers,
Kipster

I had a swb '67 912 for 2 years.
A lovely car, well balanced, went well if it was serviced and built as it should be and a pleasure to own and drive.
However, a 911 it is not, it just has a different and distinct feel, the engine really does make a difference to the character, it has its own pros and cons. I would say a 912 doesnt make huge sense to me at £45 compared to a 911t at around 55-60k. At £30-35k they make an interesting choice.

When a good 912 from Max seemed to be about 20k, they felt interesting, but at today's prices...

I love my 912, though after 4 years of ownership and not having the time to use it as much as I'd like I've got it up for sale. Engine rebuild was completed this time last year by Wrightune in Wallingford and probably not even done 1500 miles since. I've been tinkering with it during lockdown to get it even better with a refurb of the calipers and generator. Now wants for nothing.

Not compelled to sell and really hoping now it's properly sorted, lockdown is easing and the good weather is here I can get more miles in it.
Happy to have a chat if you're interested or just want a general 912 chat

Thank you for your message. Nice car you have there but it is not the spec I am looking for.

The car in the link ticks all my boxes but the price is a bit optimistic maybe? I am willing to stretch a little but unsure if this is worth it...….
If you know of cars currently not advertised but might be soon then please let me know.
Much appreciated!

Yes. I've been to see this car. The body work was completely redone by a well known bodywork guy who does a lot rebuilds of racing AC Cobras. It's pristine. The mechanicals seem ok and the engine had a big bore conversion. It looks stunning and I love the steelies. I almost bought it but would have ended up with two yellow cars and I wanted something I could make into a subtle "outlaw" (I have since found one) and I thought this one was a bit too nice for that.Hi, I wonder if any of you knows a bit more about this car?

So the search is back on for a Bahama yellow or tangerine car with steel wheels sub £50K.
