I’ve just picked up a nice 3.0SC that will form the basis of a little hot rod daily. Swedish non
Sunroof car with a recent Autostrasse engine rebuild. It’s running on original Fuchs. Good bodywork in Minerva blue which I like.

I’m thinking about the spec but it will be lightweight with heavy emphasis on suspension brakes and diff. Engine will be converted to ITB’s. Interior probably traditional lightweight spec with correct buckets.

Will update as the project unfolds

Interesting SC project. There is a very conservative looking 997 Carrera S at Portiacraft. It seems very clean condition other than bore scoring on cylinder 5 and 6. Very tempting to throw a set of modern dampers, 4.0 via Hartech and set of folding buckets.

This is my ‘72 rhd 911 that is now a ‘74RS. It has a 3.8 964 engine with GT3 crank, ITBs and Motec and is 350bhp at the wheels, running a 5 speed G50 box, APs on the front, 930 turbos on the back, Kaaz plate diff, 4.00 final drive and Ohlins.

Lovely ...

But I would modify a 981 GT4 .. and did.

Race proven engine, small changes make a big difference, Porsche tried very hard to make it play second fiddle to the GT3, but there is so much intrinsically good about it.

It even has grills in front of the radiators and oil coolers .... !

Ultimately the rear suspension is not multilink, but everything else can be sorted smile

'65 SWB with a 2.2L twin plug, albeit on efi, running a lsd and 6" wheels all round, real seesawing fun at sensible speeds, after all, fun is fun.

I didn’t have a large budget so went 996 C4S in an Outlaw type spec.

100+kg weight reduction, 2wd conversion, rear LSD install, Custom Ohlins setup, turbo lightweight wheels, freshed brakes in Porsche yellow with lines, refreshed sports exhaust with 200cel cats, mild tune, bit of alcantara and a cup wheel. Hoping to do a 3.9 soon.

How did you get 100kgs out of a 996 with a stock(ish) interior? Was the bulk of that saving the 2wd conversion?

Awesome. Porsche didn't do a 996 C2S. This is it. I'd love to have a go in a 3.9. Who's doing engine work and what sort of power/torque gains?

Just watched Harry’s Garage episode on the 1965 Sports Episode 911, a fantastic video which really captures the essence of driving one of these cars.

https://youtu.be/s_Ae_cmUAHk

This has started me thinking about getting back into an air cooled car again. If I were to go down the resto route…I think something like this would be just about perfect smokin

Definitely worth a watch if you’ve not seen it. The noise is just sublime….

In fact the price is so ridiculous you would be better just buying a nice house and watching Harry's video a few times.

What an awesome thread biggrin

Ignoring the costs and keeping it fairly simple, my ideas would be...

993 RS...

4.0 NA tuned to 380-400bhp. A few very discrete uses of titanium, inconel and carbon. Maintain the non-Aero OEM looks inside and out. All mods are reversible bolt-ons. The base car will hold its value as it is a rare factory RS.

993 RS RUF...

Drop a 993 RS off to RUF with an open chequebook. Create a more subtle narrow body road version of the Black Snake. Minus a lot of the vents and GT2 arch extensions. Keep it OEM+ wherever possible. However the addition of the GT2 rear wing will clear the intercooler. Maintain the front RS Aero lip to balance the downforce. Cap it at a semi-sensible and reliable 550bhp. Keep the interior, but use exotic materials in hidden places to ditch a little mass.
