I have been devaluing my car for the last 7 years. The boxster I had had just been serviced at OPC so that would be why it had a destroyed sump plug then!
Oh... my.... god....

Are we related? I also have a mk1. hehe

Thank you Orangecurry.

Yes, I'm planning to do the rebuild myself, but not the machine shop work and not the mechanical fuel injection pump rebuild/calibration. I've more or less chosen the spec I'm going for and passed the rate-limiting step (aside from my time!) of finding a set of bigger diameter velocity stacks- delivered last week. They will help with my pursuit of bhp!

I just bought a book on electroplating so I can replate all the parts too for max cosmetic improvement too.

Fortunately I can take my time as the car has a replacement engine in at present so I can still use it, but will be numbers matching once again when I've finished.

Dave

(I've had the car so long I've rebuuilt the front brakes twice!).

What ever you buy, make sure you go in with eyes open regarding reliability and the occasional decent sized bills which will come your way. My 993 cost me a decent amount to keep on the road plus although feeling well out together reliability was far from flawless (and that was a very well cared for lowish mileage example).

If you want rocketship pace you'll be disappointed. They're not slow, but some people think "ooh, a 911, it'll be supercar quick". They're not, but again that's part of the charm. They certainly have enough pace for today's public roads.
This is the sort of bloke down the pub bks that I really hate about PH.

OP, don't listen to this sort of uninformed drivel. They are a small, light car with a minimum of 270bhp. The slowest manual version will, in basic stats do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and 168mph. They are, by any standards still a very quick car.

I loved mine and wish I'd never sold it.
Blimey, that's an aggressive response even by PH standards! Anyway, I owned a 993 for a year so I'm not some "bloke down the pub". But to be clear, when I refer to "rocket ships" or a supercar I'm talking about, say, a Porsche Turbo. 0 to 60 of 5 or so seconds isn't supercar quick, it just isn't - which is what I said. Nor is it a rocketship, like a Nissan GTR or something. And IIRC a 993 weighs about 1.4 tonnes, much the same as a mk7 Golf, so it's not light like a Lotus Elise.
My point was that some folks see a 911, any 911, and think it's as fast as a 911 Turbo or a Lamborghini or a GTR. In my opinion a 993 is a quick car, but not supercar quick by today's standards. It's talents lie elsewhere.
Hope that's not too drivelly or uninformed for you!

That looks familiar - I owned M665 WEG back in the late 90s (or perhaps I misread the plate)

Sell the mk4 - my brother had one and it was pants hehe

You win on numbers, but my mk1 is in one piece... though the clutch went through lack of use, and now the fuel pump has gone... through lack of use... damn.... must 'use' cars more.

This was playing in the snow... ten years ago!!

Just realised my account used an old email address so PM wouldn't work - new account should. (apologies for OT!)

There are a number of hot hatches around today that could show it a clean pair of heels. I've owned my 993 for fifteen years so know it well. I also ran a Golf R as a daily for a couple of years. The Golf would leave a 993 behind on most roads. I'm sure my 993 would leave it behind on a long straight if you headed upwards of 120mph.

I owned a targa for a year or so and loved it, but I certainly wouldn't describe it as "quick". It's more fabulous GT. Loads of poise, lots of oomp, lovely, but quick is quite a long way down the attribute list for me!

To be honest, straight line accelleration is irrelivant on the roads. What is important is involvement and reward - if you are buying a car as a driving tool. In this context a 993 is in a different league to most other GT sports cars.

Excellent use of wood blockage here. Sustainable and eco friendly biggrin
