If you're after a DB9, it would be worth speaking to Rob @ McGurk.
Very knowledgable and will advise on what to look out for. If you buy a car that needs some work, brakes, suspension etc you could be looking at an instant bill of £5k plus easily.
I'm looking out for a nice V12 Vantage, or possibly a DB9 Sports Pack. Spoke with Rob about possible problems with the cars and it was a bit of an eye opener...although it didn't put me off.
Wow, its big money if there are problems. Had a quick scan through issues, and it really does scare...the guidance is don't buy anything thats sub 30k that doesn't have full aston service history. I suppose if you look at any car over 15 years old you're always going to find issues. Have you seen this chap at Bamford Rose Very knowledgable and will advise on what to look out for. Pretty good reviews, but scary!
I bought my 993 about 8 years ago.
It was a private sale advertised in the Pistonheads classifieds. I guess I’ve been lucky because I had no PPI done - but it’s been bombproof. It had previously been sold by Hartech twice and under their service package so it had been looked after by previous owners.
It is definitely my only keeper- I love the car and would say to the OP buy a decent 993 and you won’t regret it.
They are certainly not particularly fast compared to new cars but they have a old skool feel and spirit new cars can’t compete with.

I also bought mine 8 years ago and I would say to ketan.jina you can read all the horror stories etc etc but sometimes you just have to go for it. I never had a ppi either and there were gaps in service history but if you are wanting a perfect car go to Porsche classic and pay through the nose for it!

You know I think you might be right. I do like the idea of owning an old car, but it may not be a viable option for me. Its a good point about the appreciation you've had on your car, I can't imagine buying a car for 40k and then spending 20k on it for it to be worth 40k after 10 years - it doesn't make financial sense.
I'm going down a route of seeing what else I could get for half the price of a 993, maybe a 997 or an Aston Martin db9. I know its not the same, but still a lot of fun to scratch that itch
Well you could buy a new car for 40k, spend only 5k (if lucky) over ten years and it would be worth 5k after 10 years so will have cost you 40k. Unless 993s start depreciating you would have to be unlucky and spend a lot to cost you more than the depreciation on a new car.I'm going down a route of seeing what else I could get for half the price of a 993, maybe a 997 or an Aston Martin db9. I have a newish car, and although its a lovely car it lacks any sort of personality that my first car, a 1.2 yellow Vauxhall nova merit had bags of
I think something in the region of 15yrs old would do it. I still am veering towards a db9. In person they are a lot nicer than the pics can show. Theres a chap that runs through the basics of maintenance which I like a lot...https://aston1936.com

Reading the Sunday Times interview with some tv show writer about his best and worst investments. Once he had made some money he went and bought a DB9 for £128k and then after 6 months of little use he went to trade it in and got offered £48k as a trade in! Are they really that bad and undesirable. You would take a hit on a 911 at 6 months old but surely nothing as brutal as that?

That's quite an extraordinary amount of depreciation in such a short space of time! I would think a 2007 db9 at 27k would depreciate a little less, but you never know If I'm comparing price, for that I would probably be able to get a 997. If it were a choice between the two, which would it be? Million dollar question.
Interestingly did see this advert recently...
