Just been alerted to this thread, thanks for the kind comments on the car; yes it's Blood Orange .
Based on my personal experience, I can highly recommend Ty at Riviera Autobody. He knows 964/993s extremely well (owns one or two) and there is always a special project taking shape at his place. To top it off - he's a gent - one of the good guys. What more could you ask for....
Great post.
How many owners spend more time washing or polishing their cars than they do driving and enjoying them I wonder. How many potentially fantastic road trips or track days are ruined through the stress of a stone chip or - god forbid - the possibility of rain.Very true. I promised myself I'd continue to use mine as a daily, across all seasons, after the paint work. Life is too short.

About 8 years ago I had my 993 turbo restored to as new - had a guy spend 3 days detailing it to an incredible finish and then I put it under its fitted cover in the garage.
About a month later I realised this wasn’t for me. I promptly got it back on track and ragged the arse off it. Now it has some memorable stone chips but is used as intended.
Cover has never been near the car since!

The problem getting quotes for work is its almost certain not to be accurate. If the car hasn't been stripped down recently then what should take a few hours may take a few days. How many metal repairs are needed and where are they on the car? Are the wings coming off? How many new parts are needed, there are literally hundred's just on the rear PU alone. Will light be replaced? What paint system do they use and why, costs vary enormously.
I'm not sure where in South Wales you are, but I'm in Cardiff and met a chap recently in Ponty who has recently had a full resto on his very special 964. I looked over the car and was very impressed with the finish. I know the shop wasn't local but it may be worth speaking to him, it's always nice to see the finished product while also hearing from a customers experience.
Pm me and I can pass on the contact if that's something you're interested in.
