Hi,

Has anyone here performed a carbon fibre panel or a steel insert sunroof delete on their 964/994. If so, what was the outcome?

Fit a full steel porsche panel every time. you can just weld in an insert panel, but thats alway going to have the risk of the filler cracking latter on.

Carbon is fine till you land on your roof..

Thank you for your reply. This is an interesting photo, do you know who completed this carbon roof?

I could never afford to replace mine with a CF roof but I'd be interested to find out just how much a weight saving there is by replacing the original.

Wouldn't just opening the sunroof save even more weight?

I really don't get the anguish over sunroofs. 99% of joe public wouldn't even notice if a car had one. 99% of porsche drivers wouldn't go any quicker with or without one! If it's the weight go on a diet for a month!

... sure, but it depends what you are doing it for.

If you've stripped-out everything else, it's a final step to remove the weight that's in the wrongest place.

It might remove weight, but it's marginal gains in terms of cost for gain and it's mlre likely to remove value as a car becomes less original.

Fine for a track car which is purpose built, noisy and risky for a road car.

I do a fair bit of welding and know how difficult it is not to warp a large panel like a roof. You can cover it with filler but I think I would rather just keep the sunroof!
