Fair play to you getting all that work done for that price.....from numbers I've seen in the past you've managed to get some very sharp pricing there.

The cost of these, as one I am having done nears completion is roughly as follows:

Donor 35k

Strip car and catalogue 5k

weld, strip new body panels etc 20k

paint job 6k

engine and gearbox rebuilt with race spec pistons, new seals etc 20k

suspension powder coated, dampers and bushes redone 5k

Brakes refurbed, new lines and upgraded 5k

New wheels 4k

interior 10k

rebuild 5k

Total 115k

minus sold parts circa 10k for wheels, windows etc. total 105k
That’s a great insight, thanks. Could I ask if these are figures from Paul Stephens, another respected Porsche specialist or a classic/custom builder?

Another one here.

The company that do these are local to me and I’ve seen a few in the flesh. They are usually very nice indeed and seem to resell well.

Can’t help thinking the wheels on this are wrong though?

I am sure that has been for sale for well over two years now....which speaks volumes that there must be something not winning people over about it. Unsure what, but wow that is one that just can't seem to be sold.

Looks like you can load your shopping in the Frank without opening it. That panel alignment is shocking!

I looked for months for the right donor then went through many of the less well know race / body shops. I found one with low volume with a good track record who part time races. They get interiors and painting done offsite but are specialist in engines, suspension, brakes and gearboxes with a really top welder and weld shop.

If you want my advice dont rush the process and do your homework. See examples that the builder has done before. And know what you want and have the funds to do it. Do not be cheap because the finished product will suffer.

And to answer the question, not Paul Stephens.

I did think that. Why take all photos when the frunk isn’t shut properly or needs adjustment.

My car is currently on collecting cars, I won’t say which one for obvious reasons. The cost to build it would far outweigh what I hope to make on it but it’s been done properly with a ridiculous spec engine/suspension/brakes etc, weirdly it’s actually forwarded dated not backdated as it’s a ‘72 car that is now a ‘74!

Is it this one and if so, how on earth. do you cope with speed bumps or even the slightest of slopes?

No it’s the other one! That one is based on a G model car, 76 I think.

Ah I see the one I think is yours then. The one above seems it would be an impossible drive, that lack of ground clearance is preposterous is it not?

Number 52?

Let me know how you get on on pm. May be interested if doesn't go through. Have a 991.2 turbo to dispose of so won't be bidding. But if its 52 interested.

Back to topic, that one on ebay with orange wheels has been on at least 18 months.

You can probably double those numbers for Paul Stephens!

Great original post, and I have to agree with your numbers more or less given what I have spent on mine (wheels were a bit more and I didn’t do engine rebuild as had been done before)

My donor was a fair bit more but it’s a 1970 2.2 “S”

Re the interior comment that’s funny as the interior is last to do on mine and it’s poor at the moment as I have fallen out of love with it !!

Its a drivers car, rather than a PH debating car on values etc,it holds a few hillclimb records,a special car and far from a impossible car to drive!
