I'd agree it takes no time to tell if you've got a good car but to learn to drive it is another story altogether!

If you have the skill and are used to the latest batch of supercars but the car is new to you, then it doesn't take time. If you are new to supercars, or modern supercars, then it DOES take time.

Most owners do not have the skill. Personally, I have learnt a lot from taking my 458 to the track, for instance driving it in the rain at Spa. I had learnt a lot already before I got it from driving my 550, 365BB and 330GTC at the limit. But that's a totally different experience than a 458. It took me a while to get just as comfortable with it as I was with my other Ferraris. And I put it to you that it is the same for the vast majority of owners who are brave enough to take their car to the limit, which is in itself a vast minority.

Onno

Car Mag
But the compromises mean that Italia owners shouldn’t necessarily feel desperate to trade up, especially if you’re looking for a car to use on a regular basis and not just for the ten-tenths stuff. The Italia, after all, is already a fabulously accomplished car that leaves you yearning for very little more. The Speciale is, well, extremely special, but I’m going to be a wuss here and say that, if it were my money, I’d buy an Italia.

as I said buy the Italia and save 100k.....

See what you mean, But out of all the Jurnos, I would not trust Autocar....991TTS Will be quicker.....

I agree with what you say to an extent......but at this level its performance bragging rights count. And the 991tts will run rings round the 458SP as well as being 100k cheaper.....This is before the UFO from Woking lands next month.......

Well if bragging rights are what matters get a GT-R, drop it off at Litchfields, have the suspension pack and the sport engine package. You'll have 1000 bhp and be chasing Veyrons for fun. You'd probably get change back from £100-110k and have a car that is as docile as a 991tts as well.

But it's about more than just bragging rights isn't it?

Nope I don't think it is. We have the top 3, Porsche, Ferrari and Mcl, all competing for not Just the fastest Hypa car but also the Jnr supercar.....Why do you think Porsche put so much effort into the ring time.

The 458 will be 3rd place for quiet some time. IMHO......

For the manufacturers I think bragging rights seems important but for me as a customer its not just about 0-60 times, lap times, 100 millisecond gearchanges etc..... its about having a car that is FUN to drive as a special event.

Most of these cars will not be the only vehicle in the household or the daily drive so they have to be a bit different and special. Most modern supercars are just too fast for the public roads these days so unless you are into breaking the law and eventually losing your licence the fun and excitement will be lost even if it can do a ring time of 7 min 25s

The standard 458 is so good that I still have some doubts about the amount of imptovements added by the Speciale but Ferrari certainly put some effort making the it.
MP4 gives you a carbon tub for 458 money but it's too easy being quicker with a turbocharged V8...
about the 911 turbo is a different kind of car as ever I believe, the 997.2 turbo was already the fastest thing on country roads if you ask me but it will always be not an event as a Ferrari.

Why do you care so much anyway?
If you "bought" one you'd keep it for just long enough to drive to the shops, during which time you'd have learnt everything there is to know about it, and then sell it. At the same or greater price, of course.

After that you'll spend the next six months belittling the car and everyone who owns one. Job done.

I have had 2 x 360 CS, along with a couple of Scuds, here and in France. I had a order in place for one of these , like others I cancelled. Seems like Car mag were on the money on this one....

I think it's starting to get hard to sell these cars. The basic 458 is so good that getting someone to fork out another 80k for what amounts to marginal incremental road performance is going to be a hard job for Ferrari

You also have the new cars coming out imminently from Mclaren and Lamborghini which are probably going to be better on paper than the Ferrari (this is another point that I'm sure Ferrari could have made their car faster but they can't risk it looking better than their flagship F12)

IMO Ferrari should have made this a limited edition (numbered) and made it look like a 458GT2
That would have sold like hot cakes

You bought a delivery miles 4.0 for 205k when you've already got one? Very odd. I firmly believe we are at the top of the market here. Good luck to you. I was contemplating buying one but I just don't see the point at the moment, unless it's to drive. Even then, we are talking about a near 100% premium.

And I'd have to agree, reserved isn't applicable in this case. Anyone who is reserved doesn't list their car collection under their profile. Shame you 'can't be arsed' to post photos for other enthusiasts. Luckily for the PH community I had the energy to lend Chris Harris my F40 and F50 for that Drive video. Sssssshhhhhh......don't tell anyone. I'm shy.
