Driving the 430

I thought only the 430 Scuderia defaulted to auto mode during startup?
My 2005 F430 F1 always starts in manual mode so perhaps it depends on the age of the gearbox ECU?
Scuderia and 16M start in last mode used. If this was manual (which of course it is) then they start in what Ferrari call auto easy which to everyone one else is just manual - use a paddle and away you go manual all the way!My 2005 F430 F1 always starts in manual mode so perhaps it depends on the age of the gearbox ECU?
Since it's mine now, I can confirm, b rds' 2006 f430 does indeed start in auto and switches to paddles as soon as you use them, without pressing the auto button.
Race and sport are noticeably quicker changes even while driving slowly, auto seem to lurch a bit so not something I use often.
Btw, I'm glad I didn't buy a manual, the paddles are all the fun and feel but without the tedious leg movements which didn't add anything for me, must be getting old and lazy!

Just received my car back from the dealer. All I can say is 'what a difference!'
They adjusted the clutch co that the gears engage quicker. This has made moving off from stand still much easier to regulate and a lot smoother. Much better driving experience and I am told it will also help to extend the life of the clutch too!
They collected the car in an enclosed truck and delivered it back, fully valeted, in the same truck.
Well done Dick Lovett Ferrari Swindon!

and just to clarify as I have had confirmation from Ferrari.
when initially starting the car it starts in auto mode but comes out of this mode as soon as you use the flappy padals.
Mine is an 07/07 car
They are sort of correct (although I guess some software versions might be different?) when initially starting the car it starts in auto mode but comes out of this mode as soon as you use the flappy padals.

The car starts in 'auto easy exit' if you last used the car in 'manual' mode, this isn't the same as starting in full 'automatic' mode!
'Auto easy exit' means when you pull a paddle you switch to full 'manual' mode - in essence it means if you stop in 'manual mode' you restart in 'manual' mode since pulling a paddle engages the mode - it is shown with a 'down arrow' next to 'auto' on the display.
If you stopped in full 'automatic mode' or use the button to engage full 'automatic mode' pulling a paddle only switches to 'manual mode' for that change but then reverts to 'automatic mode' again.

That's exactly correct and what happens in my car. Very well expplained! The car starts in 'auto easy exit' if you last used the car in 'manual' mode, this isn't the same as starting in full 'automatic' mode!
