I have been contemplating 360cs ownership.

PLEASE this is not a thread about car values!

My questions are as follows:

1/ how do you find ground clearance in normal usage including London driving. Do you scrap front spoilers on inclines?
2/ how do you find rolling noise and cabin noise on longer distance driving?
3/ how do you find the suspension compliance?
4/ how much do you spend each year on the car?
5/ how was the car to drive on the road around the uk in general?
6/ what irritates you most with the car?

6/ for those who sold, what made you sell??

I have experience of 964rs, 996 gt3 mk2 for those who may want to compare......

I am planning to buy a car to use.....

Eric, a cs is nowhere near as focused as a 964rs or 996gt3.2. Its a veritiable pussycat in comparison, very soft springs, more bushings/couplings (in the case of the 964) and bags of compliance.

1/ how do you find ground clearance in normal usage including London driving. Do you scrap front spoilers on inclines?

Ground clearance is not too bad, you need to be aware of it, and as long as you are then you shouldn't have any issues with speed bumps or hard inclines. Been on and off ferries plenty with no issue also.

2/ how do you find rolling noise and cabin noise on longer distance driving?

Noisier as you would epect but again not an issue and part of the character of the car, done a couple of Eurotrips in mine with 12h + a day of driving. Don't bother with the radio at high speed though ;-)

3/ how do you find the suspension compliance?

I keep mine in race mode permanently except for standing water conditions, it's not a harsh ride, but firm and stable when pushed

4/ how much do you spend each year on the car?

Basic mantenance only, touch wood mine has never let me down, in fact has been one of the, if not the most realiable car I've owned. £2000 pa with consumables pretty much covers it.

5/ how was the car to drive on the road around the uk in general?

Great fun :-) just such an event all the time - but you must take it on the track also, if you can find an event that'll let the noise through, that's where they really do come to life.

6/ what irritates you most with the car?

Absolutely nothing, I love everything about it, (sorry i know that doesn't help)

6/ for those who sold, what made you sell??

Not sold.

PS - and my car is used, so far 12k in 4 years.

Why do you keep it in race mode by the way? Other modes too soft?

2 reasons -

Firstly and most importantly biggrin the exhaust valves open earlier circa 4k rather than 6k..

... and secondly, quicker gear changes in race are better for the clutch life.

Have you ever owned one.......? Stick with your Porsche, they're great and you're clearly very happy with them. Can't understand why you seem to feature on every CS thread though...

Agree with all he says apart from the above - mine grounds out all the time, even just on undulating roads taken at reasonable speed.

I too had it in Race mode all the time at first,...however after a while and as i live in Central London (you do too), i found that "normal" mode, was much better in the traffic.

I did +10kkm last year with it, and the clutch was measured before and after, something like 8-9% usage. In view of these numbers, i'd definitely drive it in "normal" mode in town, much nicer (less jerky).




And the CS is no less "focussed" than a 64RS or even the 7.1GT3RS...(unlike some here, i actually have owned all three and am doing/did stratospheric mileage in them). They are just different cars, with different set up. I had amazing times with the Strad on smaller B roads both in the UK and aborad. Furthermore many people track their Stradales, most Europeans do (i've been in touch with several owners via www.ferrarista.fr) . I did find mine amazing on track (did Le Mans Bugatti with it).
The only problem with the Stradale and most newer Ferraris is that they are too loud for most UK track days.

We'll have to diasgree on that then old bean. A factory 964RS is a ~1200kg featherweight with a very stubby wheelbase, a crude semi trailing arm and a 508 lb spring at the rear ! It's one of the most uncompromising road cars ever built. It's connected, stiff and firm in a way that makes even a 996RS feel like a overweight vanilla carerra designed for trips to Sainsburys (and many folk found the 996RS way too difficult to live with). That's long before you've got to the Strad which runs softer springs and more generous valving than all 3 porsches. Throw in the RS bars, lowered chassis, the inherent busy road manners of the RS/GT3 and you are indeed, in a car which feels a lot more focused. The Strad is far more compliant and far less fidgety but hey, that's a compliment rather than a criticism so no need to try and fight it.

Thanks for all the input. I am looking to potentially buy a car for the occasional sunday morning blast but also weekends away.
The 64rs was a nightmare for that on strd suspension.
The 996 gt3 mk2 was a bit more comfy but the rolling noise was a real bummer.

If there was no compliance in 360cs i would not consider it. Tired of all these so called focussed cars.

I don't mind cabin noise... But it has to be the 'right' noise. As in engine noise of a nice provenace, not rolling noise....

Lots of rolling noise unfortunately...more due to the poor road conditions here in the UK than the cars themselves. Hard to tell whether the 64RS or the Strad is worse. In France and most of Europe, the rolling noises weren't too bad.

The exhaust in the Strad is to die for though! Amazing, especially if it's cats free (mine was delivered from factory with straight pipes!! Funny for a car which was ordered for a woman)

Just got back from a 440miles trip today in the 964RS, mainly dual carriageway...and the RS is definitely more quiet and a lot less rolling noises (prob due to the carpets).

Hello mate, thanks very much for the kind offer. Would bite your hand off if you were not so far away.
I am London based. Staffordshire is in fact farther away for me than to book a flight and go see one in Germany!

erics, just my two peneth worth, I cant see a CS being anymore compliant than a GT3.
Having had a modded mk1 GT3 I found the tyre choice made a big difference to road noise, i.e I was running R888's or MPSC ...... std type road tyres were a lot more quite and softer ride.

They are, Ive had both. GT3 ride is frankly bone crunching at times. More noise in a Strad, but strangely it never seems to bother you?
