My favourite quote (From Napolis on FerrariChat.com ) :

"Not putting miles on your Ferrari is like not having sex with your Girl Friend so she'll be more desirable to her next Boy Friend."

Fully agree with your view. Buy them, enjoy them.
Buy old, tick of school boy crush and avoid depreciation
Buy new, enjoy the progress in time and accept the depreciation.

Simples

They are for driving. Remember that.
I couldn't agree more.

Really loved reading all your comments, all the more relevant to me as this weekend I have fulfilled my childhood dream from tifosi to owner, so your points resonate a hole lot more!!!

'Why own a Ferrari'?

I have driven many cars over the years and have a nice 996 and a track day Megane RS to play with currently. Up until this weekend I had never actually been in a Ferrari but have always adored them (F355 and F40 please...) and wondered whether it would live up to the hype.

And then, thanks to a fellow petrolhead, I got to drive this F360 with a virtually baffle free and de-cat system.

Upon depressing the loud pedal I really didn't think about the delicacy of the steering, the quite decent build quality, the looks, the appreciating values....it was all about the engine, oh my god, that engine. Never have I experienced such a glorious powertrain noise. My 996 with the Porsche sports exhaust sounds very good but is comprehensively trounced by this for sheer drama and emotion.

I now want a Ferrari more than I ever done in my life...

regards
Ben

In my case it was a F355 with a Capristo 2 system but the feeling was exactly the same. I haven't heard anything quite like it since.

Seems I may be a troll... smile

Why don't we have a thread called Ferrari prices and value at the top of the forum. That way everyone who wants to aske the same questions can search there first and if they can't find the answer they can post their question there?

That would demonstrate an element of logic - do forums permit such antics? laugh

In 1996 I clapped eyes on an F355 'in the flesh' - that was it, I considered it the 'prettiest' and best proportioned car I had ever seen and immediately resolved to own one. Years did not diminish that yearning, nor did the production of more modern, yet uglier, models in the Ferrari line up. Two and a half years ago I achieved that particular ambition and, after a two year search for the 'right' car, I acquired the F355 - 2.7 Motronic, Rosso/Crema with carbon sports seats, challenge rear grill and Tubi Evolutione exhaust.

The noise of the thing is intoxicating and I cannot envisage ever tiring of it - the flat plane crank V8 'scream' accentuated by a decent exhaust system is pure hedonistic pleasure as is the 'clack-clack' of the gear lever through that iconic gate. It is a keeper, that's for sure.
