I'd rather watch that than last night's dribble - one of the worst episodes ever, almost as if they are running out of material! Which is insane as we are in a golden age of cars right now...

It ceased to be a car programme years ago, now its a comedy show and not a very funny one at that...

Seems to be much like Last of the Summer Wine. Which when I was 8 was amusing. Like TG now - not worth watching. I watched the Ricciardo segment, the rest was rubbish - or so it appeared on 12x.

I enjoyed it. There, I've said it! I found it amusing and didn't give a flying fk that they failed to inform me a new Focus RS was launched on Wednesday last week.

Strangely the more crap they show, the more viewers they attract

That YouTube Retro Top Gear was much better than the new ones. The BBC should take note. It's the Perm, Reebok Pumps and Bikers Jacket that make JC much cooler than he is now.

I personally loved the watch, I felt a pang of sadness that TopGear has lost its way now, the last episode last week was beyond poor, they have lost their identity IMHO

I think Fifth Gear tried to fill the void that Top Gear left, but it didn't seem to really do very well.

I'm not sure non-cable channels could endure a programme like the one linked in the OP, there's too much competition from more popular shows that cost a fraction (e.g. anything reality related). I don't think Top Gear really has the balance right, and it's become a little too self aware for my liking, but the viewing figures don't really lie - and I suspect that (especially onward syndication) is all the BBC really cares about to be honest.

I wonder if the awesome Top Gear supercar races across Europe became a little non PC in this ever more conformist state, so all thats left is to drive nice cars in the middle of nowhere or jerk around with home made toys, shame.

It was one episode out of 10 and obviously done to pad the series out a bit to get away from the usual "New series of Top Gear" that consists of 4 episodes and a Top Gear Special episode.

According to My TV guide, for tomorrow nights Top Gear (15/02/15):

"Jeremy Clarkson compares BMW's M4 with its hybrid-powered i8 model, and Richard Hammond pays tribute to the Land Rover. Will Smith and actress Margot Robbie are the Stars in a Reasonably Priced Car".

It seems Top Gear can't win!

If they drive expensive supercars across Europe (or wherever) then they get slated for not catering to the average motorist.

If they don't drive expensive supercars across Europe (or wherever) then they get slated for being boring.

If they do a light hearted episode where they are just having a laugh then they get slated for being silly and not doing a proper motoring programme.

If they do a more serious episode then they get slated for not being very entertaining.

The strange thing is, it's Top Gear - You pretty well know what you're going to get, and yet it still comes as a surprise to many!

Perhaps they should just stop making Top Gear so that the good people of PH can get on with watching "Call The Midwife" instead!
