GC Motors...

Has anyone had any experience with these guys?

After some serious debate i finally plucked up the courage to commit to a RHD Scud, having rung around i narrowed it down to two cars. The car at GC Motors just edged it on spec, and after a bit of haggling i finally agreed a deal with them this morning (subject to a PPI) - unfortunately i didn't have my debit card on me at the time to pay the deposit, but as soon as got home i rung up with my details, ready to commit... i was told the chap i was dealing with was tied up with a customer, and he would call me back - fair enough... but after a further two hours, i still hadn't heard anything, so ping'd them a mail... still nothing - so i rang again, only to be told he was now with another customer... i was now feeling slightly suspicious.

Finally this evening i get a mail telling me they had taken another deal, as the chap, who unlike me did not require a Ferrari inspection, nor did he require a brake and clutch wear reading...

Feeling pretty disappointed to say the least, is this normal service to expect form a specialist? would be interested to hear anyone else's experience...

That just shows how unprofessional they are.

It also screams that the car may have something to hide and they are worried about the ppi! Hang on and you will find a better car and it will probably be cheaper in the current falling market.

You say "unfortunately I didn't have my debit card" - Fortunately more like, I'm really glad you didn't!

I think for them to suggest, that you trying to protect yourself with a PPI, has somehow cost you the sale, is pretty low - Not the sort of people I'd want to deal with.

Something else will certainly come up.

I have been down to this dealer and they do have some amazing cars. They told me a lot of premier league footballers buy and sell through them so they do get good stock pretty regularly and they turn them round fairly quick. They probably have sold the car to someone else at a higher price but cant tell you this so the salesman is probably acting cocky buy telling you they sold it to someone who was not as "picky" as you.

I think you did well not carrying your debit card IMHO. Move on and keep searching

The fact they could have sold the car twice today doesn't support the idea of a falling market in Scuderias. I think this has sold pretty quickly too.

I don't want to 'bad mouth' them - I'm sure they have lots of happy customers... I'm just surprised by the way they behaved: when you're buying a car like this, you want to savour the experience, not be let down.

As you say, I'm sure it's a blessing in disguise - the right car will be along at the right time :-)

I think the market is pretty stable, most of the dealers I've spoken to have said the prices of 458's and CS (which have slowed) will keep the Scud in check, - GC have had this car for a couple months.

Put yourself in the dealers shoes, you get a better price from someone who'll take the car as is...unless you were a loyal and returning customer, why would the dealer not take the easy deal...

If it is traxs old car, it'd have been well looked after... maybe you missed out as

But note it is now a four owner car and Trax would have sold about 5/6 years ago.

I looked at a 458 spider there a while back and I felt uneasy with the deal they were offering, they started off with the screen price and then reduced it a further 3 times when they could see I wasn't biting at it. The launch button looked pretty worn so seemed like it had been used and abused so I said I would sleep on it knowing I was going to look at another one at graypauls on the way home. I had a further 3 calls from the sales girl and her boss with other offers on the car and this is what put me off in the end and I bought the car at graypauls knowing that the car came from a Ferrari dealer. Something just didn't seem right with GC.

How do you know if they actually had the car? Many dealers advertise fantasy showrooms of stock they do not actually have.

One well known company in London advertises dozens of Ferraris on Pistonheads to generate enquiries on cars that they do not even have access to.

Have you done a company check on this company to look at their balance sheet? First thing I would do with any company before handing over any money on something unseen..

Presume this is the same car (162915) as I don't think there were any other UK ones like it - although there was a black car which did aftermarket yellow stripes

Sold it in May 2010 at 7,000 miles

There was a period in 2011/12 iirc where this car went between a bunch of dealers - I kept on low ball bidding them to get it back bellow 100,000 but think it sold for just over that

Not seen it come up for sale for a while

For the sake of balancing this up a bit I purchased a 4,000 mile Cayman R in November 2013 and dealt with Chris Gillott who is still there. I still own the car and it has done 11,000 miles now (2.5 years later). They do have a tainted reputation and dealing with them at the dealership is not the same as dealing with Porsche OPC's and specialist Porsche Indies. However, I would buy from them again. I have no complaints.

It is indeed your old car. Last ownership change before this was September 2014.

It sounds like you've come across as a time waster and they want to avoid any further dealings with you. I'm with them on this one, you did all the haggling and then didn't have a card with you to pay a deposit?
