Hi all, I visited Ferrari B'ham at the weekend and am very close to ordering a new 488gtb. There is quite a wait but as I am working abroad on and off for the next 6 months so its not too much of an issue. I have agonised between the 488 and Mclaren 650s but ultimately my visit to the dealership at the weekend has tipped the balance the way of the Ferrari. I have still not driven the 488 but I have driven the 458 which was a superb experience and is the best car I have ever driven. I will ofcourse drive the 488 before I hand over the deposit.

I have a couple of questions about you might be able to help me with.

The dealership told me there is an option to fly to Maranello and do a factory visit, then pick up your new car and drive it home. Has anyone done this? is it worth it? I did not ask the cost so if anyone knows the ballpark it would be interesting.

How do you find these cars for insurance? I am 38 have never had a claim (so full bonus) and have a clean licence. I was paying about £400 on a Merc CLK 55 AMG before I sold it last year. I probably do a max of 5k a year have a garage. I have a daily driver.

Which is the best owners club/forum? I want to drive the car not just leave it in the garage so will be keen to do the odd track day or event with other like minded owners.

I am still to decide if I should finance some of the purchase or just buy outright, Ferrari finance seems quite an expensive option, does anyone have any experience of better options for financing part of this sort of purchase?

Thanks in advance for you advice

I did factory collection in 2015, it's a brilliant experience, if you can get it (very limited) I'd do it, I think the cost is about £2,500 however for al sorts of reasons I didn't pay anything.

I pay about £800 a Year for my 458 Spider as part of a multi car policy with Chubb Masterpiece, no mileage limit, any driver and can drive any other car fully comp, full no claims. Having said that I'm a bit older than you!

It's worth joining the Ferrari Owners Club https://www.ferrariownersclub.co.uk and take a look over on http://clubscuderia.co.uk

Bank finance is very cheap at the moment, worth looking there

Out of curiosity, what is the delivery time on a 488?

Wow, I guess lead times have dropped off since the spider was launched.

That's why McLaren will hold off on a P14 spider to maximise coupe sales for the first 2 years as (with the no compromise carbon tub ) 80% of customers would naturally choose the spider over coupe.

Go pick it up from the factory and make a holiday / short break out of it. The excitement of pickup and driveback of a shiny new toy can't be beat.

Sensitive ?? Oh, the irony !. The moment anyone questions your juvenile posts, they are called a troll, get a barrage of personal abuse and are accused of invading your privacy.

Yeah, they're great at protecting residuals.

Can we not just take it as read that every proposal to buy a Ferrari will be met with:

1. It doesn't have a carbon tub;
2. It's not as good as a McLaren

And not get offended by it? I mean it may be repetitive but it is a point of view and calling names over it is a bit chav and brexity.

I think you will find I have never personally abused anyone on this forum and only respond to severe provocation.
But then again you never seem to like the FACTS which is exactly what the post was.

As regards posting my personal details on a public forum I find it pretty appalling and do not go looking up other peoples details to post publicly redcard

Those details have all been mentioned here in the past by yourself... everyone on here knows your real name and who you work for, it's hardly sensitive info. Usually people who are as sensitive as you are about their identity have something to hide though....

And for the record you have abused and insulted plenty of people on this forum.

Maybe it's time you gave it a rest and got down off your high horse before you insult the wrong person.

See if you can get that Oct/Nov date brought forward a bit to early September and collect from the factory - it's Ferrari's 70th birthday, so there will be a three-day weekend of celebrations in Maranello.

Italian GP the weekend before that too, if that's your thing.

Looking forward to the McLaren 70th celebrations in Woking Town Square, just outside Peacocks, in 2033 wink

Not by me you numpty ! But thanks to you maybe.
Now if you want to me to look up your details and broadcast them publicly I'm sure I can but that would be real poor form and an act of trolling.
You know damn well its bang out of order and against forum rules and would go ballistic if it was the other way round so I suggest you heed your warning

You have posted your name, where you live, what cars you have (and notably one that you didn't), how rich you are and even when you are out of the country. Odd for one who craves privacy.

And you have personally abused many on here, me included. Clown.

Yeah right. The safety of my family is paramount and I do not appreciate others posting my personal details on a public forum as I'm sure you don't want yours.
As usual you are talking 80ll0ck5.
No doubt your chuckle brother TP321 will be along later.
Expect he must be still busy eating humble pie after the 2nd carbon tub turned up.

You just posted today a picture of your house, where it is, the house number, the fact you have a coastal cottage, gloating about how rich you are... you're a muppet, a total muppet and you seem to be totally unaware of this fact.
