Yellow 458 Italias in the UK
Discussion
No matter how rare they are the dealer will completely screw you come resale time on a yellow one....Get a wrap instead
I am speaking from experience as when I went to buy my Nero 458 they had a yellow one there too - looked great but was cheaper than mine even though a similar spec. When I asked why I understood why it was cheaper. They do look great with a black roof though!

Thanks for all this really helpful feedback. If my maths is right, based on Jonathan's numbers (albeit they're not complete), just under 5% of 458s in the UK are yellow. Based on Yipper's comment about 100-150 458s being for sale currently in the UK (call it 125), you'd expect around 6 to be yellow. Given there seem to be none currently, it's either a statistical blip (I confess I haven't been looking long enough to judge that), or else there's something else going on: are yellow 458 owners holding onto them for some reason? Maybe they love them more than owners of other colours? Any other theories?
I love my Yellow 458 Spider, no plans to sell currently F355GTS said:

I went to a local meeting and there was another car there in that colour and i just presumed it must have been your car and asked if his name was Mark .The chances of seeing another that colour must be very low and the photo's do not do it justice.I am not normally a yellow fan to be fair bit in the flesh it just looks absolutely amazing.Andy

Correct
When you come to buy a yellow one "they are rare as" and the dealer plays on that if he knows you are sold on the colour so you pay a premium but in reverse when you come to sell they are "hard as hell to sell" so the dealer offers you less.
Its a marmite colour and whilst I love it personally it comes at a cost I wouldn't be prepared to pay compared with resale red or any other colour

I doubt i'd have bought a yellow one if living in the UK, but here, where it is sunny 99% of the time, it just works
Yup, agree totally here. Somewhere sunny like America it would make total sense, but over here you've got about 2 weeks a year with unbroken cloud. Even Rosso pops massively in direct sunlight (shameless I know).

Great info - out of interest how many UK SpecialeA and how many were yellow?
Well, DVLA say 70 imported (RHD and LHD) but I know their numbers are wrong (and have been in correspondence with them to establish why - but haven't got the right numbers). I have 61 UK RHD cars currently and I think I'm a few short. 16 of those in yellow - a much higher percentage than normal 458s, presumably because it was the launch colour for the model.Jonathan

Weird, just as we're talking about it that crops up - and it just happens to be James May's old one, the only one I actually knew of. Shame it's a private sale, personally I'd never touch one of those...
Why would you not touch a personal sale? As long as it's been serviced and maintained as intended you could find the car you want at a lot less than a dealer. From experience the Ferrari Power Warranty is not worth the paper it's written on (I bought used from a main dealer!) and you are much better off having the extra money in your bank for a rainy day rather than pay a dealer premium. Not much has gone wrong with the 458s...I had an issue with shock absorbers and that was not covered under warranty even though to me it seemed like a manufacturing fault. Search the various forums and you'll see the 458s are very reliable cars!PrancingHorses said:
