Anyone hazard-a-guess (or care to share inside info) on the 488 'Speciale'....?

I appreciate that its unlikely to be called the 'Speciale' but more likely will have its own unique name, but how limited/raw/different is it likely to be than a regular 488?

Since the Challenge Stradale was introduced production numbers have climbed and rawness has been reduced with each new 'special' variant, which IMO is a great shame and has watered down the experience each time.

It would be great if Ferrari went back to the original recipe of producing a truly 'hot' special in limited numbers but I guess why bother when a 'warm' version will still fly out the door in big numbers and at a good price. It certainly bolsters Ferrari's bank account to a much greater degree.

Cynicism aside, when do people expect to see the new 'Speciale' and in what form?

ps. Maybe there's room in the Ferrari line-up for a really special limited production V8 model [in addition to a 'Speciale'] that will genuinely get all our pulses racing...?

I was in a dealers 2 days ago and heard this question being raised....they are still not taking deposits on "488 special's" as they have no official word from the factory that one is being developed.

im sure its in development but would envisage it being kept top secret for as long as possible.

Geneva 2018 would be a typical place in the model cycle - there were some alleged photos around a couple of weeks ago http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/erlkoenig-... & https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/ferrar...

Not sure I agree with you, the 430 Scud is a superb car and just on the right side of deranged. The 458 Speciale remains one of the most agile aggressive machines point-to-point I've ever driven. As ever, raw-ness is very objective.

Per the 488 VS, it's definitely coming and will no doubt be sensational to drive.

True, the bhp of all hot cars seems to be going only one way. 300 bhp for a hot hatch today is nothing. That's why I've put a deposit on the upcoming Alpine 110 which I saw in Paris last week. A stunning looking pocket rocket where weight loss (97% aluminium body) was a priority over power. It'll have the same power/weight as a Cayman S and promises to be a riot to drive.

Back to Ferrari, my guess is their focus now is the upcoming Cali replacement. Now, this will be interesting as it promises to be a much harder-core entry level car.

The 430 Scud came 3 years after the stock F430. And the 458 Speciale landed 4 years after the stock 458. The 488 launched in 2015, so a 2018 unveiling and 2019 delivery for a 488 Speciale (or whatever) feels about right.

My dealer told me recently that it'll not be for 2 years yet.

I however don't believe that. I wouldn't be surprised if it's unveiled sometime within the next 12 months.

I expect we'll start to see/hear more at the end of the year, official unveil at Geneva with RHD cars coming starting to arrive end of 2018.

You won't ever be able to "place" a deposit on one to secure a car. You will either be allocated a car or not.

Geneva 2018 and with the 720s launch I expect them to be fairly vocal about it in the near future.

Unlikely to be a LE car so deposits will be gladly accepted when open. If it follows the 458S, the LE car will be an Aperta.
