Ferrari 458 sounds louder

Hi Guys

Just back from a e European blast in the Ferrari 458 and I've noticed that since I've come back my car sounds louder. In Sports mode it sounds like its in Race mode and much louder. At idle the car sounds more bassier.

Could it be that the exhaust flaps are stuck open?

The car drives fine and has no CEL lights on the dash...in fact why am I complaining.

The best way to tell if the flaps are stuck open is on start up. The car starts with the flaps open and then closes a few seconds later so if your car doesn't quieten down significantly a few seconds after start up the flaps are probably sticking.

Is the car brand new or have you just had the exhaust fitted?
I had a Stasis sports exhaust fitted to my R8 V8 and the sound changed as I put more miles on.

Thanks guys it looks like my flaps are stuck open as it does not go quieter in Wet or Sports mode.

I'll take it to the dealer asap but what is the process in fixing the problem?

I'm not an mechanic but it's likely one or more of your vacuum hoses have come loose, or are leaking. They are connected to the exhaust silencers (5 and 6 in image above). Some people remove them and plug them (so as to prevent ingress) to have the flaps stay open permanently, so as failures go it's not the worst thing that could've happened

I would leave mine in Race most of the time purely for the earlier flaps change. Was too scared to do anything with the hoses even though I'm sure it's probably the easiest thing to undo

Durzel - get the remote exhaust valve switcher from Formula Dynamics - it's god send and the most effective and best mod one can do.

Hi Guys

Just to say that my car is fine now.

The guys at Supercar Italia in Biggin Hill changed the vacum pipes and vacum pump and the car feels and sounds like a different car. It's even more pointy and dart like. It was fast before but now its even faster.

Plus I asked them not to update my 2010 458 ecu so I've still got all the pops and bangs.
