This only applies to a small handful of cars.

For example the LaF Aperta. Ferrari knows, as do the Aperta's chosen list of customers, the car is a huge thank you. It must have had a paper profit of around 3+ million the moment it was delivered. And why not? The people who were offered an Aperta have not only spent fortunes with Ferrari, and continue to do so, they participate heavily in Ferrari life (the Corse Clienti, Concorso etc). Something Ferrari values considerably.

Regarding everything else, including the Pista, people forget too quickly the market is anything but solid. The 599 GTO (a great car and unlike the Pista an LE) was around 330K new and had lost value in 2011 by about 10%. By the end of 2012 the entire market was moving fast to the upside. The GTO at one point hit 850K for a UK mint car. Now that's nearer to something beginning with 5. But could easily track south.

The Pista will be a giant of a car. And apart from a few brave flippers (there will not be many as flippers are easily spotted and will be immediately black listed by Ferrari) the Pista should hopefully hold its value. But anyone expecting a huge upside will be very disappointed. The Pista reward from Ferrari will not be the money you make, it will be having the opportunity to spec your own car and drive it hard from new.
Interesting. I bought a lefty GTO about 3 years ago and despite it looking very cool and sounding cooler I sold it. I really when pushing on just thought it was a bit of a big nosed lump. It’s funny I adore my FF by comparison (novitec pipes) but the speciale is my fave. looking forward to the Pista I think it looks amazing and will be great fun. For those of you comparing it to the 720 it will be a very different drive. I I’ve the 720 and will I am sure be using it daily but Ferrari’s get under your skin like nothing else

Quite a few curious comments on here. Is this brand or that, common or ostentatious, effeminate, mundane? Frippery, nonsense, and marketing-speak! Get thee to a track day! or at least follow _Leg_'s example and give something a good thrashing down a B road, even if its "just" a Boxster (but recall there was a time when a 300+ bhp mid-engined car was a top-end supercar).

For my part I'd like someone to build a track car, specifically not derived from a road car, along the lines of a modern take on the 330P4 or 333SP. Don't care who builds it but want 12 screaming n/a cylinders and less than 1000 kg.
The Boxster is a great little car. I've had it 5.5 years now, it's my winter DD and every year when I put it away at the end of March and get the bigger stuff out I know I'll miss it over the summer. It's just everything you would ever need, I'll probably never sell it.

I do often think, "I would really like a small, mid engined, V6, simple, lightweight Ferrari".

A bit bigger and more refined than an Exige but lighter and simpler than a Boxster. <500bhp, <1000kgs, simple, to the point, lightweight. Preferably manual, but that's unlikely.

I guess I'm describing the rumoured new Dino. Did that die a death?

I’ve been approached by someone claiming to have a build slot for the pista and wanting to give his space up, and has offered me it (I’m guessing for a fee)

How do you go about finding out if this is legit or a scam?

Also I don’t have 250/300k atm and I doubt the bank would finance it but if I can make a profit I’m all for selling the slot if I acquire it

This post is about finding out if it’s legit

Well that would be the next thing, go to the dealer and get the order form

I’m just waiting for details see what fee he’s asking (if any)

There won’t be an order form signed unless it’s been specced.

But if the allocation is genuine it will appear on their Ferrari online account

Minumum £50k fee or its a scam for sure.

Even if he had an order and didn't really want the car he would know he could buy and sell it immediately for £50k over list with no problem.

I would be very wary if I was you

I think £50k is a very conservative estimate of fee needs for a Pista slot but good luck !

I have an order form but no spec yet, its just a placeholder so they can take a deposit

Yeah when I’ve asked for details he’s suspiciously gone quiet

But might play along and see! If it’s genuine I will pass on the relevant info for anyone who’s interested

So he wants near enough the price of a McLaren 720S or Huracan Performante just for the slot...

Looking at other prices it probably isn’t a bad number, but hope he doesn’t get it and somehow loses the allocation for hawking the car around. The more enthusiasts that get these cars the better

That’s how I feel! Whilst he will get it when he’s got the physical car, possibly even more I refuse to pay over like that! For a slot 20-50k yeah but 200k is taking any profit out of it anyway, but it’s not spec’d yet so would appeal to someone, but I refuse to pay basically 300 for the car then 200 for a spot well I can’t afford it tbh I’m not even going to lie!

I think Ferrari are way ahead of Porsche on sorting out the real clients from the flippers, but the dealers still don’t always get it right. Am cynical enough to think some dealers deliberately supply the odd premium car to people they expect to flip but who promise to do so through the supplying dealer so they can make money twice. Did I say cynical? Sorry, meant realistic.

When did you win the euromillions ? It wasn't that long ago ( a month ) you were posting you were on less than national minimum wage and struggling to justify buying some old sportscar for £50k lol
