458 Spider - does GS command the biggest premium?

Hi there,

Still on the hunt for the right 458 Spider, and I can’t help but think the pricing seems more erratic than ever.

I am looking for either a GS or a Rosso Corsa Spider, both with buckets and black leather. I had understood that Rosso Corsa commanded the biggest premium, but there are currently only 2 GS Spiders for sale (there are 3 actually but only 2 with buckets), and they are priced at £180 and £185k with 12.5k and 12k miles respectively.

There are plenty of Rosso Corsa cars with bucket and less miles for less money which certainly wasn’t the case a year ago. Maybe it’s just because there aren’t many GS cars about and there are plenty of Rosso Corsa cars which is driving the price down... or maybe the 2 GS cars are simply overpriced and will sit there forever... discuss!

I’m looking too and the same 458 spiders have sat un-sold for months at (imho) hugely optimistic prices with dealers in denial about the state of the market. Fair enough, if they don’t want to sell with some discount it’s up to them but I spoke to a dealer about a car 4 months ago and they refused to budge on price. It’s still for sale at the same price now and I followed it up 10 days ago with a polite email asking if they were more minded to discuss the price now. They haven’t even bothered to reply.

As for colours and specs, resale red seems to be the relatively safe bet and I’d have to have the carbon race seats too but also happy with the lighter colour interiors. Otherwise on colours it would have to be a grey or black car for me. Hard to tell what’s worth the premium with so few for sale and hardly anything moving. The black car with the orange interior would be a brave choice imho.

Whatever you buy from a main dealer today, you won’t get your money back anytime soon but who cares, they are epic cars.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one struggling then, pricing is all over the place and hard to see what is actually selling and what isn’t.

The 2 458 Spiders that Manchester Stratstone had up in recent weeks were the most keenly priced examples I have seen since I started my search and both went within a week. Likewise the black one that Romans had a month or so ago also sold within a week... so they are moving when the price is right but clearly some are overpriced and sitting there unsold (but still unwilling to discount!)

I’d be happy with grey/black or red but red would definitely need that carbon rear panel to brake it up a bit. May the search continue!

Low miles cars are over priced imho and have been sitting for ever at £180k with zero appetite from the main dealers to move on price.

That silver car at Stratstone Manchester had a huge spec and was sensibly priced as it was a bit older (but 2012 is hardly an old car) and had 19k miles, which if you think about it, is less than 3k miles per year but seems to put some people off.

Slightly older cars with higher miles and a big spec are the sweet spot in terms of value imho if you actually want to use them rather than worry about adding 30% to the mileage with a European road trip!
