used as an acknowledgement during a discussion of a good or clever point made at one's expense by another person.
"‘You haven't contributed much, this evening.’ ‘How could I have?’ ‘Touché. I do go on.’"
2.

I believe the first explanation is derived from the first - as in: you landed a point at my expense.

So - any word from the OP on which way he’s leaning?

And they cost £7500 onwards for most models!
That's not the cost of wing shields is it!? As that is what was being previously discussed...

Painted ones are about 7500. Normal about 1500.

Stupid sounding question but how are the 2 different? Presumably they are both painted

Normal ones are some type of metal plate that are put onto a recessed area on the body panel.

Painted ones, literally painted onto the car by hand, they are also quite a bit bigger and it's a time consuming process. I saw a video once of it being done but I can't find it for you unfortunately.

Wow! Thanks for the info I had no idea. I actually think I prefer the sound of the ones recessed into the car. Will keep it in mind for my next lottery win!

Here's an example of the painted shield. I think they look great but perhaps only on a special like this TDF?

I don't mind the fact it's painted, but from a style perspective it is way out of proportion and it jarrs with that diagonal carbon piece. Maybe on a simpler car...

I think that's way too much, fussy, colour clash etc

Thank you for all your input. I had a great time at the dealership and below is the spec I went for! Having read the majority of your replies after I visited the dealer, I may remove the CF from the exterior as I only went for a few bits - this will save £6k. I went all out on the CF interior though smile.

Decided not to go for a front suspension lift as I have never needed one before (with my Mclaren 12C or 911 Turbo). Oh, and the Ross Portofino red looks stunning!

All pricing aside, I actually think the standard shields look far better than the painted ones

Why would you put the special launch colour for the Ferrari Portofino (Rosso Portofino) on an F8?

Am I missing something obvious? Why would painted shields be better than the standard plate that fits in the recess on the wing?

I’d much rather have something I can replace if it got damaged somehow, than a painted shield that can’t be repaired. Plus the small recess is more aesthetically pleasing imo, it looks like it was (as it is) intentionally designed. If I didn’t know better and saw a painted shield on a Ferrari I’d assume the owner didn’t spec it properly to begin with and was trying to pass it off as having shields, not that they paid £6000 more for it redface

It's a stunning colour and one of the premium options for the F8.

I agree it’s a stunning colour but Ferrari offer a number of colours that are very similar and I personally couldn’t stand three years, or however long you plan to keep the car, being asked why I’d put a Portofino colour on an F8. However it is of course up to you.

Personally I prefer a deeper red to the standard Rosso Corsa and Scuderia, and the only other red that I liked was an £18,000 triple layer which I can't justify. I don't think Ferrari would offer Rosso Portofino if it was controversial - It's clearly been a success for them. Ultimately it's all down to how it looks on the car, not the name! smile Happy for other opinions though.

When i first saw pictures of the launch Portofino my first reaction was what a gorgeous deep red..I agree the RC and RS are weaker reds compared to the Portofino red..My fav Ferrari red is Rosso Fueco which is probably the £18K triple layer red you're referring to.
The aggressive stunning F8 will look incredible in the deep strong Portofino red IMO..Great choice of colour..!

Fuoco is indeed the triple red. It is lovely but I’d suggest that it might be wasted on UK climates where you get about 10 days of sunshine a year smile

Regards what Ferrari “allow”.. Ferrari will allow any horrific combination of colours, or do paint to order if asked. The sales guy might have a quiet word to say about it regarding resale, but they’ll still do it (and pull your pants down if you try and resell the car back to them down the line).

That said if you like the colour then that’s what counts smile

Rosso Portofino is a superb colour.
Here it is on a Portofino (with shields wink ) in stormy May weather in Biarritz. It’ll look great on an F8 in the U.K.

Top choices on the rest of your spec OP. It’ll be a stunner.

Something tells me this is the only time anyone will a) pick up on it and b) care
