You are very correct, as soon as you want CF seats the numbers drop dramatically.

Option 2 is here below

Any information on this car?

That's the thing - is there much choice? There's a good number of cars out there but few with a decent spec. I'd say the current market is showing a number of low quality cars which I'm not sure represent the full price spread.
For sale at Meridien since mid-September, 13681 miles, initially at £154,995. Reduced to £149,995 at the end of November.

Previously for sale at HR Owen in June 2014. 3850 miles asking £172,950.

Then for sale again at HR Owen in August 2014. 5650 miles asking £164,950 initially then £159,950. Presumably, either the owner decided to keep it for an extra couple of months for a summer jaunt or someone bought it for a bit of summer driving then put it back up for sale again.

Better only if you prefer a 4WD Lambo..Most people in my experience are either Lambo fans or Ferrari but seldom both..
I used to think so too but I was recently invited to Marenello to drive the F8 Triubuto on track by Ferrari and the majority of owners at the trip with me owned both Ferrari and Lamborghni car's and some had Mclarens too!

That’s interesting as back then it did not qualify for the approve used scheme. It seems there may have been additional work carried out to bring it in line with the required criteria/standards so now does..not sure.

It definitely has been accident repaired though so if they now hide that fact (as it qualifies) then I would be inclined to request an independent inspection on the car to assess the repairs.

Either way though, with so much choice out there what’s the point!?

Agree it is a lovely spec car though!

What's interesting is that a fully loaded 458 with all the carbon bits is pretty close to the price of a Huracan Performante which is a much newer and better car IMHO!
I drove so much stuff when looking to buy, Hurracan RWD & AWD, Peformante, 570S, 600LT (short drive), 458, 488, R8 V10 Plus, AMG GTR, 991.1 GT3 RS and 991.2 GT3.

In the end it came down between a Hurracan AWD or the 458, though I'd say the GT3 variants drove better than the Hurracan, but having owned a 911 I wanted to try a different marque.

Yes the Performante, even Hurracan would leave the 458 standing, the performance and how they launch off the line is staggering, both felt under 3s for sure, just found grip even on a poor surface and they went. But I was driving the Lambo's and apart from the epic noise and theatre I found the driving experience lacking, I had no fear, I was having to do some pretty insane speeds to feel remotely challenged and as amazing the looks and sound, I knew in the end if was just an R8 with a fancy frock, better sound and sharper gear change (corsa mode).

I then drove a 458, an early 2010 car and I was driving it and all my senses were tingling, to the point I thought I was speeding, I looked down at the speedo to see I was clocking 55mph, right then I was sold.

After driving all these cars and having owned some nice cars, the 458 engages with you on another levels, I feel it is the car that sits right in the middle of Ferrari V8's. 430's and older are rawer, gearbox is OK but also naff if F1, manual great but can get tiring if you want to use it often, long trips etc. or even as a daily, but the old cars feel special, you can get in one and if it was badgeless you would know you were in a Ferrari. Then driving stuff like the Lusso, 488 and Portofino, again totally awesome cars, but they've become like other modern cars like from AMG, Porsche, its an awesome car, but something is missing, if I got in it and there was no badges I'd be trouble to guess it was maybe a Ferrari, mainly I suspect because of turbocharging and some cossetting to well make them more user friendly.

The 458's to me are that perfect balance in the V8 range, they can be raw, they can also cruise relatively OK and the gearbox (DCT) works fabulous and you absolutely know your in a Ferrari, it just seems the car Ferrari got so right, lightweight, huge power, fantastic handling without too much grip so the car is such an enjoyable drive. It says something when you can get a mid-engine car moving around like say an E46 M3 CSL, the balance and progressiveness is just something else and that engine is truly special and was only ever put in the 458 series of cars. I think it is what makes the 458 truly special, the engine is bespoke to it and the Speciale.

Ferrari due to wanting to grow and as awesome as the V8 twin turbo is, they offer it in many cars in their range or versions of it and though its much quicker and a 488 is a much faster car, myself as an owner is not chasing numbers, I am chasing something that feels truly special to drive and has that iconic design, classic looks of a Ferrari.

In short the 458 nailed it, I love mine its the best car I've ever owned, it may not be the quickest car, but as a car to enjoy and drive, well I feel it don't get much better. smile

Yes finding the right specification in a 458 is very hard, I was looking for ages, drove a 2010, 2012 and eventually settled on the 2014 I have now, I was geared up for red or black, then when I see the triple yellow in the flesh, oh my what a colour, this thing looks gold in the sun and looks like a deep glossy yellow in the shade, but at what a 17k option for paint, so it should. But yes carbon buckets, forged wheels, carbon interior is a must and does reduce the numbers available and the price shoots up for sure.

I am crazy I daily mine apart from nasty weather and in less than a year have put 7000 miles on it, but the car is to be enjoyed, not an investment, but saying that I got it a year ago for 150k and the dealership has requested to buy it back as they are struggling to find 458's in good specification as they say it and I was expecting a very low ball offer, needless to say I was surprise how strong their offer is, but I have no plans to let this car go because to me I cannot get a more fun, a more special car, I can get faster but I don't want faster, I want to enjoy driving and the 458 delivers, the only way I can progress I feel would be a 458 Speciale which are out of my reach financially as I don't want huge finance agreement over my head.

A quick picture of mine:

Sorry for all the pictures but I just think its a beautiful machine.

What a great post and a resounding endorsement for the 458 over other more modern faster cars..It looks stunning in Triple yellow and the spec is very similar to mine even down to the Nero roof although mine is GS..I bought mine a year ago and like you i considered Performantes, Maccas, 488s etc but its the 458 which tugged at my heart strings..Will go down in history as one of the best Ferraris ever built IMO.
Only a Speciale will get me to sell mine however they are outside my reach so will have to contend with a 458 Italia.

Agreed, I think the cars in not so desirable colours, cast wheels, daytona seats, no carbon and even worse those without the LED steering wheel will for sure start selling retail for around 100k if high miles and trade for less of course.

Those with right spec, values will be stronger, I think mine is in lightest possible specification, no suspension lifter, no JBL with carbon seats, carbon dash, forged wheels and I am so glad mine has cruise control as the sensitive throttle makes cruising a bit hard on a motorway and the cruise control or pit lane speed as its called solves the issue.

I think give it 3-5 years and the good ones will be worth a bit more than they are now, even more so if Speciale fly towards 500k mark, as then you will just get same effect the CSL had on the E46 M3 when its values went up, it also dragged the regular cars up a little too. If Speciale get a further 200k appreciation, it is fair to say decent 458's will see at least 20k uplift too. smile

Seems they are desperate!

They serviced mine back in April/May to which they commented we just sold a lesser spec car than yours for nearly 10k more than what you paid, so please let us know if you ever want to sell it back to us.

Low and behold this weekend just gone I had the same / similar letter to you stating they are after high-specification 458's and willing to pay, I am not interested but did call them as a courtesy and interested in what they would offer and I was quite shocked how good the offer was.

Looking at their site, they only have two 458's in used approved and they are both white poor specification cars, so it kind of makes sense they are hunting stock.

I am not sure how many 458's are in UK, but amount for sale is reducing, are people sitting on them as this time last year there was more for sale and also more in Summer, yet at the moment the nicer specification cars seem not so many, there is just the poor specification and insurance accident cars for sale at moment at low prices.

Anyway very happy with mine, just a shame I need to park it now for most of Winter as don't want to expose it to salty roads.

I was also very impressed with DL for service as I requested a spark plug change as I knew previous owner did track days and felt I'd change them early and other dealers were asking for like £400-£800 to fit plugs, DL did it for £250 and they had my car form 08:30am and stayed until 19:00 so I could drive it back home that day, fantastic service from them. smile

Gibbo 205, what a lovely car. My only regret is that I didn't get a yellow one. I agree with everything you say, I have been lucky to have driven a lot of other stuff (oddly enough few McLarens) including 488's and F12s around Fiorano and an 812 around Silverstone and nothing really does it for me as much as my 458. I have been tempted to change into a yellow Spider but it only had standard seats and I'm fussy now. On Silverstone in my 458, I was I think 8-10 mph slower on the main straight than the 488's but I didn't care, I was having I think more fun and making a better noise. I know the 488 is a far better track car and a faster road car and many owners love it with good reason but I couldn't warm to it enough to shell out a lot more to get one. But I really want a yellow car, and I can see myself changing in to a yellow Spider. A Speciale is also out of reach for me but if I could I would buy it and not need to ever change again. And I would drive it a lot, not caring about value maintenance.

Point is you could have a nice 458 Italia plus a nice F12 for the same price as one Speciale..I also thought the quality of service at DL Swindon was absolutely top notch and the invoice for the service, wheel alignment was surprisingly reasonable..Based on this experience Ferrari ownership is very painless compared to some other Supercar dealers i could mention.
It gives me a lot of confidence for me to buy another one.

Yeah, cruise is the one option my car doesn't have that I wish it did - you can be going through the average speed cameras and a sneeze will make you pick up 15mph

Well worth it as throttle is a touch sensitive for motorway cruising, even in the wet mode.

A great write up Andrew.

How did you find the Huracan Performante, as I'm seriously considering one?
