I’ve seen talk about the 430 propping up 458 prices, but there’s still a huge gap between a decent 430 spider (c.£80-85k) and 458 (£145k +). There’s a risk that the 488 will leapfrog the 458 (like the 360 did to the 355), but surely the F8 is going to apply pressure to the 458 - even though they are very different cars. I just can’t quite believe a £458 spider is still so much.

I should add that a big part of me wants these to drop to £125ish so I can get in! Maybe that’s what’s holding it up, and you don’t hear many “I bought a 458 because everyone bangs in about it, but it’s actually crap, and I wish I hadn’t...”.

I think the arguments about the 458 have been repeated on PH ad nauseum. Nobody says “actually it’s crap” because it isn’t. They are very special cars and the F8 is quite a bit different. I see the F8 putting pressure on 488 values, not 458 values.

458 is the last N/A V8 car. The only pressure I can personally see on it is basically just advancing age, dropping out of available warranty, and "new money" not caring about N/A vs Turbos.

458 felt to me like a quantum leap forwards from the F430, the interior in particular. That's not to say the F430 isn't an incredible car in its own right of course.

I think you’re right Durzel (re risk being new money caring less). Mind you, that doesn’t seem to have killed the 355.

The F355 is a classic, arguably one of if not the prettiest Ferrari ever. It basically exists on its own in terms of valuation, in my opinion.

I’m looking to purchase my 458 / 488 in April.

I hope they drop a bit 😂😂

A REALLY good 2013/14 458 is nearly as expensive as a 2017 really good 488 with similar miles

I'd have thought the next few weeks is the last opportunity to get "softer" pricing. It might even be too late already. Come spring people will be thinking of getting them out of their garages, etc so naturally prices will firm up again.

I do wonder how many people choose the 458 over the 488 “because it’s the last of the NA engines”, rather than it’s the better car - as if you have done something wrong choosing the turbo. People should buy the car that they themselves think is better - not because of some weird mantra.

All about the sound. Couldn’t give a toss about the fact it’s the last n/a, just that it sounds and feels like a Ferrari.

Especially on a spider version where often half the reason people bought the soft top is for the sound !!

I'd agree. Have a 488 GTB and a 458 Spider. the 488 is better in almost every way as a car, but given the choice, i'll take the 458 out for a drive.

And yet more people continue to pay a multiple of £100,000s more for super cars that have turbos!

The F40, a Ferrari fan obsession, is a turbo.

I honestly think the mantra is tiresome. Just my opinion.

How much an f40 or 288gto are worth isn't linked to the fact that they are or are not turbocharged - nor is it comparable to a garden variety 488 which is the topic here !

Very odd response. I didn’t mention values. I simply used the F40 as an example of a turbo that is highly desirable.

I was responding to the gentleman’s opinion that asserted “generally people prefer NA”.

I just don’t agree with him. I believe it has become a psychological hangup for some people. NA delivers power differently, which some people prefer. But that’s it. It’s subjective but definitely not objectively better.

All I was arguing was if you have this wonderful dilemma of being able to choose between a 458 and 488, drive both and pick the one you love the best - don’t buy the 458 simply because it’s the last of the NA.
