Agree , but why anyone pays what they do for add ons is beyond me, I think the shields are good value compared to some accessories.
If I get another 360, or a California it would have to have shields, each to his own though.

i don't like them - but try ordering a new one without them, ''you can of course sir, but we wouldn't recommend it as going forward the next owner will want them'' - the painted ones are silly money, and massive, look ridiculous.

i just bought a used Ferrari (my 4th V12, but previous cars were ordered new or the 1st owner specced them) - no shields, lovely.

I think they look better on the mid engine sports cars than on the front engined GT’s

Thanks for the replies everyone. I’ve decided to buy the car without shields purely because the rest of the spec is exactly what I want, it’s in fantastic condition and has great history.

Ideally I would have liked the recessed shields, but I might go to a few meets when they happen again and see if I can see any cars with the resin shields and maybe buy those. Picking the car up tomorrow!

I have always had a problem with £5 resin/plastic shield stickers on a £100,000 ferrari.
I'm a big fan of enamel and metal shields like the old yoshi ones.

100% this, with exceptions for homologation specials. They look tacky and try-hard on the road cars, the supercar equivalent of cheap tattoos. Even Ferrari now recognise this as most of the Roma press cars are shieldless,

So your saying that "ferrari now recognise" that there shields look like the equivalent of cheap tattoos? As well as thinking there own badges look tacky and try hard? Are you sure ferrari think this? That's some claim brother biggrin
They have always given the choice of having them on there modern models and still do.
Nothing has changed in the last few months since there official Roma video showing one car with and one with out badges. Even at there world premiere some cars had them and some didn't. wink

Good decision. They certainly weren’t a deal breaker for me. Which car are you buying? Pics please.

Ferrari don't agree with you - Haven't since 1984 when the 288 GTO came out.

(And before you try to claim that the 288 GTO was meant to be a race car, the 272 road cars were meant to be exactly that - Road cars, produced for homologation purposes, to enable Ferrari and customers to enter race versions in Group B races. The road cars were not built to race)

Next came the F40 in 1987. Again, it was a road car, and not a race car (race versions were made later, but the car wasn't originally intended to race)

Then @ 1998 Ferrari started to fit Scuderia badges as a factory option on F355 road cars, and have done so ever since.

Ferrari don't have a problem with Scuderia badges being on road cars, and their opinion carries a damn site more weight than the opinion of an owner or fan.

As for:

1) Because they like them.
2) Because they can afford them.

Plenty of people would ask why anyone pays hundreds of thousands for a Ferrari, when there are cars that cost half as much that can match the Ferrari performance (and in some cases, better it), and some that are far more practical and usable than a Ferrari is (BMW's M5 for example).

People buy Ferrari's because they like them. They like the way they look, the way they drive, the way they sound, the way they make the owner feel. It's a personal choice, just as Scuderia badges are a personal choice.

For the majority of Ferrari's new car customers, paying £600 for a pair of Scuderia badges is nothing - They spend more on a bottle of wine to go with their evening meal!

When I was buying I didn't care either way. As it happened my car had them.

The previous owner had been kind enough to tick the majority of options.. smile

Spider
F1 trans
Challenge grille
Upgraded brakes (not 100% sure if factory but suspect it was)
Shields
Fiorano handling pack
Some carbon trim

If only he had gone for the carbon seats frown

Basically a spider challenge car... ish. Thats what I like to call it anyway biggrin

I’m pretty sure you couldn’t spec carbon seats on the 355 spider, so it sounds like they ticked every box on the options list.

Ah yes I see. They could have added luggage and a spare wheel but other than that I think everything else.

And the upgraded brakes was part of the Fiorano handling pack so suspect thats factory - red calipers and drilled discs?

No its the 355mm discs with bigger callipers. I have been told they are made by Brembo just not sure if it was added after or some sort of factory "optional" option as it was very late in the production run.

The rears are "FHP" i.e red with drilled discs.

Nah sadly not! I think the F40 brakes that are on the challenge cars are even more expensive.
