Tyres I get, last quote for 4 tyres I had from my local Ferrari dealer was a good £500 more than I could source them online myself for, but oil? confused

But even with tyres, don’t you haggle? I always quote the Black Circles price to my dealer and, while they don’t tend to match it, they do come down a bit on the price.

I’m going to have the same dilemma next year.

My 20 year old 360 has a full Ferrari FSH record, not a single one missed. One reason why I bought it.

Only 10 miles away I have probably one of the best Indi’s around , Stewart Roden. I’ve used him to replace a leaky shock and also replace all the belts as one of them wasn’t fitted quite right and was causing a slight noise.

I personally would rather it went to him to service it , but then I’ll be breaking the ferarri service history and that must be worth something .

People buying Ferrari's - And then complaining about the cost of servicing them!

Absolute classic! rofl

It's like buying a private jet - And then complaining about the price of jet fuel!

I can't speak for everyone, but when it comes to things like tyres - where there is essentially no additional expertise involved in supplying and fitting them that you can rationalise the extra cost as covering - I refuse to pay £500 extra on principal. I ended up paying the main dealer ~£150 or so, maybe less, to actually fit my supplied tyres and dispose of the old ones (because it was worth it to me to pay that in case they damaged anything doing it - so I'd have comeback, and I knew the car needed a low jack and knowledge of where to jack it etc), so they still got their money for old rope, and I felt like I hadn't been completely turned over.

willy wombat: I mentioned the cost to the main dealer but we both realised they were never going to come close to matching it. Frankly I would've been insulted if they did.

Other stuff I'm less bothered by, e.g. I wouldn't go as far as saying I would source and supply stuff like oil, etc. Then you really are bringing food to the restaurant and asking the chef to cook it imo.

Yes, but but but but.

I trust my Indy 100%, he has served me well and done right by me more then once .

I want to keep the Ferrari service record though but i know they won’t be as detailed or meticulous as my guy.

This isn’t even about cost, it’s about what’s best for my car and it’s value going forward.

Get it done at Ferrari, then again at your indy? Best of both worlds smile

I'm only slightly serious..

Once the car is of a certain age I would trust the knowledge/expertise of a long-established indy at least as much, if not more, than the main dealer whose mechanics may have only just been out of nappies when the car came out. So I personally wouldn't automatically pay a premium for full main dealer history on a 20 year old car. It all depends. For example, I would prefer a low owner car that has been looked after for much of its life by the same indy (who will be intimately familiar with the particular car) over a higher owner car that has been to a main dealer every year but rarely been to the same main dealer twice.

Hi Craig511 ('' I personally would rather it went to him to service it , but then I’ll be breaking the ferarri service history and that must be worth something .''. )
Its only going to be worth something if you are going to be selling the car .
If you really , really want the car , and its a keeper , then the MD service stamp is really of little more value than a stamp from a well respected independent

bish_345 , I entirely agree .
In fact when i bought an older car from HR Owen some years ago , they had the decency to tell me not to bring the car back to them because their current technicians did not have the experience to deal with such an old ( at that time 13 years old )car .They recommended a well known independent - Mike Pullen of Carerra Sport .
Re that particular car , it is now 32 years old , and I am the 2nd owner and have had it for 21 years .
In that time it has only ever been serviced by HR Owen ( supplying dealer ) , and 2 other technicians ( under my ownership )

I think that there is so much to be gained from having the same ( competent ) mechanic look after any given car , and being able to talk to said mechanic and examine the car on the ramp with him .
It is difficult to get to do this properly at a MD , and with a new and different mechanic each time .

Just to clarify i now one the car. It’s great.

But i will confess when i was looking a car that has full main dealer service history appealed more to me than those without .

I know i know, but I’m not the only one and now that i have a car with 20 years worth of dealer stamps or weeks wrong to not continue that but I’d rather use my Indy all day long.
