On the subject of noise - a mate of mine has a 488 spider with a full novitech race exhaust - sounds just like a formula 1 car and absolutely stinks of petrol if you drive behind it !
Re the 360/430 versus California / portofino type car - for me it it all comes down to comfort - rear engined cars have less legroom and the seats don’t fold as flat which made them a no no for me with my bad back !
Boring but true . .

My Ferrari dealership workshop (Dick Lovett) tell me that of the hundreds of F430s they have serviced, only a small few have had a manifold issue and have never had an engine problem due to manifold failure. Moreover, partly the root cause appears to be ultra high temperatures during track days. I have had 3 F430s and never had the slightest problem (touch wood), but my Ferraris (all 5) have never been driven on track. Nevertheless, as I previously stated, if I was that worried, there are a number of after market and OEM Ferrari solutions. But I'm advised, with my limited mileage, just save my money & maintain the vehicle perfectly, with yearly inspections. Whatever, the cast iron solution is not to buy a car, any car. But where is the fun in that?

I have the exact same thoughts with my vintage aeroplane. There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but no old bold pilots. I am old and thus risk adverse, but I don't keep my aeroplane locked up in the hangar. Life is for living.
I had a 430 Spider from Lovetts not tracked and manifolds went.
You’re very fortunate not to have had any probs. Nice one.

Interesting. A very well known specialist advised me VERY unlikely that a good condition manifold on a well maintained car will fail and that they haven't seen any with engine damage as a result. One solution they reckon is to loosen the brackets slightly at the back where there is something which claims the exhaust to centralise it within the rear bumper and give the exhaust some room to move around as it heats up.

I also spoke to one of the principal Ferrari UK dealers who reckoned they had seen ONE car with engine damage and it hadn't been the most loved or well maintained thing on the planet hitherto.

That’s good news, does surprise me though as manifolds certainly in the past were defo considered a weak link on the 430

Thought I'd update this thread with, well, not much really. I've found a car (I lie, the car or rather the owner found me) I'd like to have a look at; provenance is sound, colour combo looks good to my eyeses and the owner is an enthusiast so the car is in tiptop condition. Unfortunately, due to this festering fecking virus I can't go and see it and it's driving me nuts. So frustrating.

Another update - car bought from a rather decent chap on this very thread. Hugely excited, my first Ferrari and all that. Stunning car, impeccably looked after with low miles too. More to follow!

It’s lovely - unfortunately I only drove it for about 15 mins then blew a tire on a pothole ! Typical - have driven that road every day for years and never a problem ! So new tires coming tomorrow . . It’s got lovely interior - black with white stitching and loads of carbon parts - plus sports exhaust so a little more fruity than standard
