This fellow comes across as a bit of a snob. Doesn't much care for lesser beings who've earned their money rather than inherited it (or at least had a significant leg up.) I suspect he would have got on well with the late Alan Clarke who described the self-made Michael Hesseltine as the kind of chap who had to buy his own furniture.

As for not seeing the point of private plates, well they're a bit of fun, tend to tidy up the look of the car (provided you get a good one) and mine has grown in value by around 500% in 15 years. What's not to like?

"Nouveau riche" I suppose he means as opposed to inherited wealth of the vieux riche?

I guess that means if daddy's money has paid for your Ferrari and your PNP then you're cool with this obnoxious man.

He’s just sore that he doesn’t have a pre ‘75 365 GT4 2+2 with black and silver plates.

I don't understand these Italian phrases you're using. But, the kind of rant quoted in the OP sounds distinctly middle class to me. The only reason I can possibly think of for the FOC printing this sort of Hyacinthe Bucket tripe is to reinforce the view that you have to be bonkers to own a 400.

Didn't they cock up the rules so that anything oer 40 years old could use the black and silver plates, so he could fit them.

Now I don't give a monkeys if people put a private plate on a car (I wouldn't, but that's because a standard plate is harder to remember if someone spots me driving like a tt) but I do think shoving a black and silver one on a rubber bumper MG or Mk3 Capri to try and make it look older is more than a little naff.

Er, Italian phrases?

I think if I was the editor of the FOC I'd be rubbing my hands with lots of glee, who could possibly pass up the chance to post this old fart's fine gentleman's views on the pros and cons of a private plate and not watch the coughing and spluttering of the inevitably outraged responses? Makes good copy, don't it? Must admit, I did check to see if it was a cracking spoof or even April Fool's but looks legit so far.

Interestingly, I actually did drive last year to the opera in my Ferrari, to Verona no less, to go and see La Traviata (or is that La Chaviata?) at the annual open air opera festival and we had a grand evening.

However, you can imagine my utter horror and profound disappointment in the car park for I was the only private plated car. All the other Italians all had normal plates, not a BO55 in sight. Philistines. I expect they'll all pass away soon.

Meh. It's a touch nauseating listening to some old toff telling younger generations with money what they should and shouldn't do. However, I also think PNPs are chavvy.
