458 v 488 market
Discussion
At the absolute lower end of the market, what's a better buy between these two? The white one listed on AT has better spec with interior carbon plus the bucket seats, but the black one below has fewer miles. I suspect both prices would be negotiable given how slow this segment of the market will be due to mileage

Had been out of the Ferrari scene for a while, having owned 360, 430, 458 and 488 in the past. Bought an approved 458 coupe with a great spec in February and just think the car hits the sweet spot in so many ways, in my opinion the current cars styling and adoption of hybrid tech holds no appeal to me. The 458 still drives like a modern car, most of my friends who are not up on cars assume it’s brand new….
Lovely colour. Objectively the correct caliper colour too oharedm said:

Hard to look past a Huracan Performante at that pricing level?https://www.dicklovett.co.uk/ferrari/used-cars/201...

Personally, I would look at the nero daytona car first- but that is largely based on the fact I really (and I mean really) don't like white cars, even where supercars are concerned, the colour is just not for me so if it's just out of those two the black car wins. The spec is also not bad- daytona seats, carbon drive zone+led's, scuderia shields, carbon engine cover (relatively rare option on 458, one I have and the engine in carbon does look stunning). It's at a dealer who does not sell cars like this every day so in my opinion there are probably/possible options it has which are not even listed. If you like the car get the full spec for it. As you said also 10k miles less. On a super car that's potentially 3-5 years worth of usage.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202208289...

The racing seats are no big deal IMO. I drove a car with them and did not see any real benefit in having them at all, although I confess they do look very nice.
The nero car also has full PPF, which is 3k-3.5k if done well and with a good ceramic coating will have a huge impact on how easy the car is to keep clean, and on how good the exterior condition of the car will remain even when doing some miles in it.
I have full PPF on mine, never had it on a car before, but now would not have a car of this type without it.

Appreciate the comprehensive response and insights. I agree on most of those points which is why I favour the Nero car and I'll try to view it this weekend. It's been serviced by a Ferrari specialist for the last four years, I spoke with them earlier today and will be able to get a good indication of the history from them and book an inspection. At 42k mike's, there should be a few age related bits to check to ensure they're sorted prior to the sale. I'm thinking suspension components, ceramic brakes, clutch wear and gearbox seals. Is there anything I'm missing out? The racing seats are no big deal IMO. I drove a car with them and did not see any real benefit in having them at all, although I confess they do look very nice.

Funny enough, it's the cheapest supercar to insure compared to the other brands I looked at in the same price level (AMG GTR, McLaren 570/650)

But is the 488 market following the same trend…?
Yes it appears both the 458 and 488 have been trending downwards. The expectation really is to see approved pre owned hold somewhere in that 125-130k range and a non approved be sub 120k. Spiders have been coming down slower but to get into one for around 140-145k would be really good. 488's have been sitting for months on AT, some disappear and show back up a week or two later. 488 coupes a few months ago were mostly 160-170k, now can find some approved used at mid 150's.Also to note which may not be related, is seeing more 458/488 come up for auction on CC. It could be dealers offering very low bids to take the cars so owners wanting to try selling for themselves.

458 Spiders seem to coming down, last year there was one up at a main dealer with 4k miles at £187k. There was also a bloke on this thread who was adamant they would smash through the £200k barrier. Seems not to be the case, Mr fridaypassion. Hand over your house.

Can't deny his passion but the optimism is just self justification of his purchase and trying to talk the market up.
As great a car the 458 was the game has moved on and so has its purple patch in terms of value. Just too many of them built to achieve today's inflated advertising prices.
Maybe he ended up paying peak price but it doesn't matter if he loves it and intends to keep it
got a 488 gtb last month...drove 458 italia also and looked again today and what ? nearly all the 488 i went and looked at (about 12), are now sold a month later...so market interest looks solid...
...488 so fast i find it unreal but slower feeling 458 just wicked, i think the quicker steering in 458 makes them feel different the 458 so go kart like, and the 488 momentarily cuts power when you change up at full bore (to save clutch i guess) whilst 458 in Race does the opposite - clutch just slams the gear in and kicks you in back

I’m sure that what’s happening is people can’t refinance their cars when their deals end. And then few people are now able to buy a car on finance.
So it’s mainly cash buyers in the market, and I guess cash buyers can only be 25% of car buyers at most.
Anyone on this thread buying via finance ?

I looked at buying on finance but because 458s are old now, not many lenders would put a balloon on it at a competitive rate. The best I've seen is 10.9%APR from Ferrari finance, which is quite a chunk of interest, given the car's purchase priceSo it’s mainly cash buyers in the market, and I guess cash buyers can only be 25% of car buyers at most.

My father is heavily involved in the classic car market. That too he says is really struggling.
I agree that by the time jan and feb come around, the picture will be a lot clearer.
I fancy another 458 but I reckon there's still a long way to go price wise.
My gut feeling is that there was/is a huge market of people that are happy to spend approx 20k plus 2k per month on a toy or high-day car, whether that is a Ferrari/lambo/Bentley etc. That suddenly doesn't buy very much and what can be bought isn't that appealing.
Financing a new/newer Bentley/Lambo/ferrari at 50k plus 4k per month, or whatever new ones cost after the huge recent price rises, is a serious amount of money. Prices out the majority of old customers I reckon.
