Time to flip things on their head.

Has anyone gone from a 458 to a 430 or even 360 ?

I've always kind of fancied a 360 manual, but the staggering performance of the 458 won me over, but I am now in a position where I also own a 600 LT which of course has the 458 bettered in performance stakes and as such have pondered potentially selling my 458 and buying a really good condition 360 manual (mileage not a concern) or even maybe a 430 F1/Manual.

Wondered if anyone has made such a move or has a 360, 430 and 458 in their collection and can compare?

I kind of like the idea of high mileage manual 360, I assume they are pretty reliable cars with just usual issues, suspension refresh with Hill Engineering parts, potential new clutch/flywheel, any other issues to look out for like corrosion, engine issues etc?

Now I know a 360 is a much slower car but is it fun and can it be hustled and handles great is suspension and alignment is well setup or is the F430 just vastly superior?
with a 600 LT in the garage, this sounds like an excellent idea to me. I would go 360 over 430 as said above

I've recently gone 430 to 458 and still have both.

It's an interesting one as I bought the 458 spider in mid November and it hasn't really moved since coming home (god I hope tomorrow is salt free). It's odd, the 458 is so stunning and having driven it three times it is awesome.

But the 430 is still my photo on my phone, OMG it looks so damn good.

So without driving either for a month or two, I could happily keep the 430. But having watched a load if videos and gone into the garage and made broom noises, I can't wait.

I suspect the real answer is to just to fk loads of money.

I sold my 360 at the end of last year, it wasn't a manual but modded with Challenge Straddle spec suspension, ECU, TCU and bodykit. Looked great and sounded fantastic.

However, I sold it as despite looking the bllx and sounding awesome it was always a bit of a dissappointment performance-wise and more importantly, handling and stopping compared to the 600LT.

Funnily enough it was because in many ways the 360 didn't feel that old that I kept forgetting it was actually a 20yr old car and I would get frustrated that it couldn't corner or stop like a modern car. It's all subjective of course, as the reason you have a 'classic car' is not really about the performance, but more how they make you feel. For me it felt better jumping from the LT into my 993 (which is obviously older than the 360) than it did going from the LT to the 360. I think it was something to do with the 993 looking very old, but the performance actually exceeding expectations

Having said that, I'm currently doing up a manual 355 I got off CC during lockdown, so I get the need for having a gated Ferrari in your life ;-)

Interestedly, I was thinking a 458 would be something nice to run alongside the LT.

Cheers

Andy

Had both in manual form. To me, I preferred the 360 as it feels more analogue, the F430 didn't really do anything the 360 couldn't in manual form and as pointed out earlier sounds worse in standard form. The manettino and e-diff is obviously very much geared towards the car in F1 format.

The 430 does have vastly better finish and build quality but then so does a 488 over a 458, that's the biggest area of progress in each generation compared to the Ferraris I grew up driving which were wonderfully engineered but frankly had crap interior quality.

Have had both F430 and 458 Italia.

Whilst the 458 feels like three generations newer than the 430, arguably better at every single thing over the 430…..I miss the rawness of the older car.

More visceral, more raw & better sounding (to my ears). I’ve found the 458 noise to be a little one dimensional, all blare and that’s it. The sound from the older car builds through the rev range ending up in the most magnificent crescendo….simply wonderful.

They can look a tad awkward from some angles, but still, in the right colour / wheel combination they’ve got a lot of presence.

Didn’t get on with the sports seats in the 430 though, they sit too high with the electric adjustment for me, giving you that sitting on the car and not in it feeling. Bucket seats in the 458 are miles better. Superb seats.

They do feel more fragile however. That’s where the 458 scored highly, way better build quality throughout.

For me, a manual F430 with buckets would be perfect.

Forgot to say….I liked the F1 ‘box way more than I thought I would. Once you get used to how it needs to be used, it’s really fun to bang around the gears.

Missed this one for sale recently, just about the perfect F1 F430 to me..

Concur with seats, I absolutely cannot get 'sorted' with them. I'm no fatty but they just feel too small and high.

Thanks folks. I am non the wiser smile

The recommendation appears to be

Keep 360
Buy 430
Buy 430 manual
Buy 458

I am now pondering McLaren, but if I go 458 budget I could look at Huracan

What I would say having owned or driven the cars your considering:

- 430 I'd say is not a huge leap on from a 360, owners here seem to suggest the 360 still has edge on noise, steering feel, but if you want faster and more composed then yes a 430 shall deliver that.
- 458 owned one for four years, ballistic fast compared to the older cars which the DCT plays a major role in and is also superior and easier to live with compared to the F1 box, very well built and the interior is a massive leap on compared to 360/430. A real interactive and fun drivers car, full of feel and even fun at legal speeds, but also capable of easily smashing speed limits.
- Mclaren best steering feel of them all, best in Spider form too as the carbon tub has no weakness such as scuttle shake so always consider the spider, weakness compared to a Ferrari, don't sound as good, very planted and as such silly fast for UK roads and not much fun within speed limits, generally reliable apart from niggles really.
- Huracan engine and transmission from the gods, Audi reliability but very limited cabin and frunk space compared to Ferrari's and even Mclarens but for me the biggest disappointment was noise aside a really boring car to drive, you have to be going seriously fast to enjoy one on the road, just a numb and vague car, Performante is best of the Huracans but I'd take a 458 everytime over one, exactly what I did.

If you have 130-150k I'd seriously suggest test driving a 458 and a 600 LT Spider, both cost similar and both are simply epic drivers cars and an absolute occaison to drive.

I considered a Huracan, but the limited luggage space was a big negative for me - it doesn't suit how I use my cars. Combined with the fact that Lambo servicing seems to be noticeably more too, it just didn't add up for me.

I personally felt the 430 was quite a big step up from the 360 though but as you said if you can push your budget up to 130-150 then you're really getting something special
