My F12 is coming up to 4 years old at the end of December. 16,000 miles, no issues.

Question is, do I extend the warranty?

My 458 Spider will be 4 in April too so I'll have another decision to make then. 19,000 miles, no issues.

Ferrari Extension is £4080
Ferrari Power is £2652

458 a little less. I'm reading the terms to try and get an idea of the difference. I'm running a collection of 15 cars and plenty have no warranty (vintage, classics, modern Porsche, modern Mercedes, modern BMW M car) so I'm used to running cars outside warranty but this is the first time my Ferraris have reached that stage.

Anyone had any experience? Both cars are keepers so I don't care about residuals, selling etc.

Definitely extend. I had a seemingly simple issue which turned into a gearbox shipped to Maranello episode. I shudder to think how much it would have cost.

I was about a month from expiry and was close to not extending it as the faults that occurred (battery, parking sensor, electronic glitches) were all minor and not covered ..... then my gearbox spilled oil all over the road and was shipped to Italy.

Let's just say, I was very happy to pay the cost of the extension for another 12 months of relative peace of mind

Edit: car is a 2012 FF - and probably doing 15k miles per year

Definitely extend, I don't think 4K is that bad for an F12. I always thought I would risk it and did when my 430 ran out of warranty but i was very relieved when my first California was in warranty as the engine blew up and needed replacing at approximately 45k.

Just imagine if it was out of warranty.

I'm only bothered about major stuff so the £2600 one might be sufficient.

I'll read up on the differences.

Extended. 458 Spider next. Seen as they both go into Europe a couple of times a year it made sense.

Makes sense - it is unlikely that the engine or box will let go, but would be really painful if it does

I would normally suggest extend, but as you said the car is a keeper it makes me think slightly differently. If its a keeper will you be extending at £4k a year in perpetuity , assuming a straight cost line? I doubt it! You are more likely to get problems as the car gets older. I would be saving the money on insurance now, and putting it towards proper maintenance and a war chest for the future. It brings me onto the whole subject of modern cars as collectors vs older cars. my DB5 I can do anything on that car in the same was as one could on a MG Midget. Modern super cars with electronic everything represent quite a commitment of ownership.

I'm not really extending the warranty because I'm concerned it will go bang.

I'm extending the warranty because I take it into Europe, next year one of the trips goes as far as Pompeii, and I want to drive it and enjoy it without any worries. Time and enjoyment are more important than money, and I can make more of the latter much more easily.

My warranty year (458 spider) runs 1st Jan to 31st Dec. After a lot of dithering I bought an extended warranty for the current year (first year out of original warranty). Car dispatched to dealer earlier this month for annual service and MOT with me thinking that the warranty had been a waste of money. Just had email from dealer advising oil leak discovered and gear box being removed for further investigation but not to worry as all work / parts covered under the warranty. Maybe not such a waste of money after all. Having said that, I have had more issues with the 458 spider than I expected. Front shocks replaced at 6000 miles under original warranty and now this issue at 8000 miles. Have had the car since new and don't consider I abuse it. It has had a fair bit of mountain driving and a couple of track days each year, but other wise "normal" driving. Unsurprisingly I have just agreed to purchase further warranty for 2018.

Interesting as I also have a 458 Spider I've had from new in mid 2014. Mine's never been on track as I have a dedicated track car and a race car but it's done 17000 miles, mostly on mountain passes and round Europe, driven at reasonable pace.

I've not had any issues at all with it but I'll be extending its warranty next year.

Just come off the phone with Warranty Direct.

They’re no longer covering 458s or F12s.

So my F12 is due next month (currently Ferrari warranty) and 458 Spider next June (current WD) and I’ll have to go with Ferrari or find something else.

Any thoughts?

£3480 for Ferrari Power warranty.

Edit - £2436 for the Ferrari warranty as I’ve had no claims.

Have you had a recent quote from Ferrari? (JCT 600)
As yesterday I received an email offering Power Warrenty at half price ... for F430, offer stands until the end of December. Maybe worth a call?

I also had an email, this one offered half price warranty for my 599 (which hasn’t had a warranty for several years). My 458 spider warranty due 1st Jan 2019. However I think I’ll take a deep breath and not renew as I only expect to do a few hundred miles in that car next year as I have a Portofino coming in the spring and plan to use that car for my overseas trips etc.

Though from a few years ago (ver.02.2014), the Extended Warranty wording include the terms

"The content of the 4th year Extended Warranty or 4th and 5th year Extended Warranty is the same as that of the Manufacturer's Warranty"

"The Warranty does not cover faults resulting from normal wear and tear of the vehicle, and specifically:
a) maintenance work and costs for materials subject to normal wear and tear"

"'NEW POWER' FORMULA

Coverage

Engine

DCT gearbox

Power Transmission Unit:

I always assumed that "oil leaks" would be their trump card in a warranty claim being denied, although assuming the gearbox example above is covered then maybe this isn't always the case.

Main dealer fitted price for "misting" ("oil seals and oil leaks in general are excluded","normal wear and tear") California rear shocks (x2, replace in pairs) in 2017 - £3.5k. Subsequent to late 17's/early 18's Ferrari parts price increase - £5k. Excluding willy wombat's shocks, there are numerous examples (e.g. PrancingHorses(?), replace in pairs = 4/2018=~£10k frown ) of shocks not being replaced under Ferrari's warranty. This may be related to which type of warranty (Extended or New Power) the car was covered by, vehicle age, and/or any warranty-claim related dealer targets (if such a thing exists).

I think Extended used to only be available on vehicles up to the age of 5 years, with New Power available from the 4th year onwards (to the 12th). Not sure what the current vehicle age/Ferrari warranty definitions are.

_Leg_ , assuming you have the terms of both available and the time to do so, would it be possible to summarise the high-level differences in warranty terms between the Ferrari Extension and Ferrari Power (and document versions)?
