612 - Which year to buy?
Discussion
I just bought a black/crema 612 OTO from Meridien Modena. Its a 2008 car so must be one of the first facelift cars, but standard with HGT2 (ceramic brakes, sports exhaust, etc).
After looking at the pre-2008 cars I felt they were more basic - the updated infotainment, panoramic roof, manettino and updated switch gear brought it more up to date.
Picking it up in Jan, so very excited!

You've had it a year.... How is it???After looking at the pre-2008 cars I felt they were more basic - the updated infotainment, panoramic roof, manettino and updated switch gear brought it more up to date.

Been wanting one forever, just sold the G55 and was thinking let's do it: but we will be going for a G63 instead (yup again a truck) as the 612 is just not practical enough for a family with 2 very active little boys and father (surfing, ski/snowboarding...)
It is aging wonderfully well the 2008-2009 HGTS/HGTC 612...i've looked at a few black/daytona seats ones here in Europe, and what a lovely piece of kit

Like many prestige cars, 612s simply aren't selling. I've been following these and ffs for a number of months now and they just sit there and sit there in the classifieds. Just like houses.
I was sceptical, so I went and looked, and you're right. The average age of the 9 ads on AT is 200 days, so a bit over six months. The oldest is from 2021. And some of those ads may have been renewed, so the URL doesn't necessarily reflect the date that car was actually first listed.
As a comparison, the average URL age for McLaren 570S coupes is 83 days, so just under three months. (Just as a prestige performance car I happen to have the data handy for, not suggesting it's an alternative / rival to a nat-asp V12)
Plan B? Pistonheads of course!
Arguably CC is a very compromised platform to sell such a niche car with unique modifications. For me, with all the passion and knowledge of the car, it’s frustrating not being able to engage better with bidders. It’s the lazy option though, right?
One thing is for sure- if you want a manual 612, which really is an exceptionally rare car, this is cheapest possible way in, especially for a car that you might want to actually drive.
fk it; if it doesn’t sell I’ll whack some 6-1 headers on it and keep enjoying it for another few years. :-)

Yeah, I think if you aren't in a hurry you should be able to get a better price as a private sale where the buyer could (presumably) arrange an inspection, and as you say you can engage with the potential buyers.Arguably CC is a very compromised platform to sell such a niche car with unique modifications. It does sound like it must be fun to drive with the manual. FWIW some people also have a strong preference for white cars, so being unique in that regard may help you find a buyer.

I had a manual 612 for some years. It took me an age to sell via a marque specialist c3-4 years ago. The buyer then tried to sell it on CC at least a couple of times and it did eventually sell at the third attempt I think. Nothing wrong with that car, but it’s a super niche market for a 15+ year old, 4 seater, v12 supercar/GT. I’m often attracted to niche cars that are a little different, but it makes for a very illiquid market when you try to move it on. One sees retail prices of the odd example and imagine that’s where the market is at, but often to shift a car you need to be much lower. I recently had this with a somewhat battered Toyota landcruiser, a well modified Defender and in the past, other than the 612, with a couple of modified Porsches.
I’m passing no opinion on this car at all which looks well done and has the manual box that I loved/chose myself, rather sharing some personal experiences that might be relevant.
