Chris Harris didn’t buy his FF back because I did. I am hopefully collecting the car next week. The car is getting prepared with with new tyres discs and pads all around. I can’t wait.

Marvellous.

I wondered if the brakes were what was causing the lack of interest. They were 80% + worn from memory on the inspecion report.

I always looked at FF’s but recently I was trying to be sensible. I started liking at M5’s and RS6 but I didn’t pull the trigger. The M5’s had good deals on just now and I like how understated they are for work. I love the look and interior of RS6 but they are really expensive. I seen the FF and loved the colour combination. I thought of a Purrrsaangue is £400k then a FF is good value. Also if it comes with two year warranty and new tyres and brakes etc it is almost as good as buying a new M5 with 3 year warranty.

The FF is just such a pleasingly well resolved design. I prefer it and the F12 to the Lusso/812 generation I think. Not to take anything away from the 812 which is a mega bit of kit, the FF just has a certain something about it.

I also love the fact that it has a real key. Took me a good 2 mins to figure out why the start button wasn't switching the car off at the end of my first drive!

Next one up on Collecting Cars.

Late car, nice spec. This one should float some boats.

Think that one was listed on Autotrader for circa £120k previously.

Such an awesome car - continent crossing abilities in any weather.

I’ve just returned from a trip to Innsbruck which is still in the grip of winter and the car was fantastic in the conditions.

It was an 1,815km round trip, of which c.75km (in each direction) is single carriageway through a mountain pass where traffic doesn’t average much more than 60kph. Needless to say, the FF’s average through the pass was somewhat higher biggrin. In total, it took 8h to get there, 7h15m back and 300L of fuel...

That looks brilliant. You’re clearly enjoying better weather than I did on my road trip last week (although the dirt on the car suggests that it's been changeable!)

Do you have any regrets about switching to the FF from your 812 GTS?

Well I still have my 812GTS although I have agreed to sell it to my business partner, he just hasn't picked it up yet.

No regrets at all. The FF is just so much more usable for me because of the space. It's still bonkers fast although an 812 is obviously a lot faster. I did a few-seconds squirt of full throttle on the autoroute yesterday which got me up to 125mph - in an 812 it would have been 150mph.

It's softer and more dialled back than the 812. The angriest mode is sport and the 812 has Race and CT-off. But who uses those, really. Not me.

The FF has a certain character to it that I really love. There are some flaws: the electronic fuel gauge is awful, and so is the range calculator. I've been warned by FF-owning friends not to run it low which is annoying when the guage is so rubbish. Proper analogue gauge would be so much better. Or a hack to make it show exactly how much fuel is left rather than blocks.

The seat belt butler catches the seat belt I reckon 1 in 4 goes. When you put it in reverse it's a ridiculous beep fest. It complains if you turn off the car with lift on and you have to turn lift off (why). The infotainment is 2013 vintage.

Most of these things might be fixable with software tweaks (also I think you can programme the bumpy road setting to default on which would be nice).

Overall I love it. The reaction it gets is great. Oh - and she likes a drink!

Get in the habit of filling up when you're at two bars on the fuel gauge, it can go wrong very quickly, ask me how I know.

My seat belt butler catches every time, sound like yours may need some adjustment or a tweak.

Replace the head unit, the Chrysler one is utter rubbish. Don't bother with built in nav just get something that runs Carplay or AA, it will always be more up to date than whatever built in system is available. This is the route I took, plenty of other options available but I'm happy with this. I also found it drove the standard speakers a lot better.

The FF has three levels of suspension setting - Sport (hardest setting) - Comfort (this is bumpy road mode by default) - Ice/snow (softer than bumpy road mode)

I'd originally wanted an F12 which I still adore, but I bought an FF for all the reasons you're now enjoying yours. It's just way more useable, still silly fast but doesn't want to kill you when it rains!

The other odd thing I find is the headlight "main beam" button operates the wrong way around (and different to an F12) it's pull when it should be push and visa versa. Odd.

This is helpful, thank you.

It's interesting that the suspension can go one step softer than bumpy road mode - do you know if Wet mode activates this or does one have to go all the way to Snow?

Also, I think I'm getting better fuel economy not in Sport mode. Not by a lot, but some

Comfort and wet modes are bumpy road mode by default.

You only need to press the bumpy road mode button when in sport to soften the ride.

Ice/snow mode activales the softer setting automatically and can't be accessed in other modes.

I drive in comfort most of the time, I find the gearshift (in manual mode) less aggressive and more conducive to smoother driving. I only use sport when I'm pressing on and sometimes on very smooth motorways as everything is more responsive.

What you'll find on motorways even in manual is sport mode will downshift out of 7th automatically if ask for more power. In comfort it holds 7th and gently gains speed.

In heavy traffic, stop/start stuff, motorway crawling I've found Comfort/Auto the best compromise. DCT boxes hate stop start stuff.

New FF owner here.

I’m also the guy that inspected barchetta boys car at Ferrari Colchester (that colour is so good)

I’d been saying for years that I wanted an FF. Even buying a V12 plate a few years ago. There was one car in particular I wanted to have. It was only a matter of time until the inevitable happened. It was in a private collection of cars I manage and it Nero Daytona with the black leather and alcantara seats. Lift, pan roof and a 2015 model. It was Ferrari Colchester’s demonstrator originally before my client bought it in late 2015.

I hyped this car up so much in my head that when I got it and drove it back 30 odd miles in torrential rain I figured I had overhyped it in my head and it wasn’t for me. But since having a couple of longer runs with it, it’s all clicked into place for me. What a machine it is.

Essex based.

Welcome to FF ownership.

I’m glad that you managed to secure your dream car and that it gelled with you (despite your initial misgivings). As I’ve mentioned before, these cars have an ability to get under your skin in a way that a 30 min test drive can’t reveal. It’s only once you live with them that the sheer scope of the their performance and ability becomes apparent.

Given that you’re obviously in Ferrari spannering circles, FWIW, my Indy also says that an FF is at the top of his daily driver list. But given the km he puts on his cars, he couldn’t justify doing that to one so he tools around Europe in an M5 wagon instead.

For me the fuel consumption would kill it as a daily. I had the range drop to zero the other day in Bilbao city centre with 3 blocks remaining on the gauge. Stressful!

Last Monday I drove it from Bilbao to home in one hit. Was feeling fine when I got to Calais but the last leg home, an hour and a bit in rain and darkness I felt really tired.

I collected my FF on Friday. Firstly Ferrari Swindon could not have been nicer.

I owned a 599 and I much prefer the FF already. First thing I noticed was how quickly I got use to the steering wheel controls. I thought what is all the fuss about. The ride quality for such a fast car was excellent. The ride quality made me think what Porsche thinks ride quality means. The car did not feel as big as I thought. I have never once been concerned with the length of bonnet because the wheel arches are nicer pronounced from the drivers seat. The interior feels special and it did surprise me how well it was trimmed. If a GT4 Lusso has a better interior then it must be truly special. On the motorway journey back I was surprised how quick the car gathered speed. I have owned lots of fast cars but a combination of the torque and gearing means means keeping the car under 100mph is hard. Obviously the gearbox is a big improvement on the 599 but what I noticed was the biggest difference was the steering. I always thought the steering on the 599 was too light and vague. I thought Ferrari was making it light to hide the weight of the car. So far I am delighted with my new FF and glad I was not sensible and bought an M5, RS6 or even a Defender. I have not tried the back seats yet for space because I have a back injury but it does not look much bigger than my Aston Rapide S.

Impressive pace for a journey which google says takes over 12 hours.

Trips always seem to be Faster by Ferrari. smile

I echo these comments. It took me 3 months to "learn" how to drive mine and a little longer to completely gel with it. But this is my first supercar and first F car so I had a steeper learning curve than those that have changed models.

I find the steering wheel controls intuitive (apart from the headlight button which you pull when you shuld be pushing and visa versa, strangely the opposite to an F12!).

At 9 months into ownership there's nothing I would change it for.

If I could change one thing it would be cabin noise (which I understand was addressed in the GTC4 Lusso) which is touched on by the poster above. For extended journeys the drone in the cabin does become tiring. I've still not ruled out changing the back boxes for Lusso ones to see if makes a difference. If I find a sensibly priced used pair to experiment with I'm still tempted. I've had dynamat fitted in the boot and rear seat area and it did make a difference.
