Things you don't often hear on a car review.

"This is not so much a car as a Class A substance ..."

"... it's insane"

Congratulations on what sounds like an epic car....

As a chap who has been welcomed by Andrew into his cars and enjoyed rather hilariously bumbling around in the 599GTO, I will happily say the “macho” stuff here does not apply. He just likes to enjoy the high end stuff in the same way as normal stuff. And share the enjoyment.

Surely you either have a pure analogue car or you have a digital car.

By definition a digital car should never be “difficult to drive”. The false machismo attributed to this is bizarre. If a digital car is difficult to drive then it’s design has been poorly executed.

I doubt very much that Hamilton or Bottas get out of their digital F1 cars and demand that they are made to be more difficult to drive. Mercedes win year after year because their cars are easier to drive. They are more manageable and therefore the drivers can extract maximum performance from them.

It might sit well for TDF owners to wax lyrical about the raw, untamed power that they can learn to master - and if it elevates values too good for them. But if it’s difficult to drive then it’s flawed.

Why do people who have no clue about the topic appear to jump into threads to add completely irrelevant nonsense? It seems so many PH threads go this way.

The point is, all cars these days have systems. In my view, and seemingly others who spend real money on this stuff, it is good to see manufacturers trying different things and producing cars with different characteristics. Nobody is talking about being macho but you.

This started as a simple question to other owners. If anybody wants to rubbish the car, I’d like to hear it if you are an owner. Otherwise, seriously, why bother posting all this made up crap?

WTF have formula 1 cars got to do with anything either? They are cars built to regulations, to win races. They aren’t road cars. And followed to its logical conclusion all the cars I own would all drive the same. How imaginative that would be.

I guess this is why we haven’t seen any owners posting. I will follow their lead - guys you are welcome to the thread and the forum.

Wow - I’m sorry someone will now have to pick up the toys from your pram.

All these modern supercars are designed to be driven with their electronic systems on. If you switch them off you expose it’s flaws. And that’s fine if you want that kind of thrill - or you could buy an analogue car instead. But if it’s difficult to drive with them on then that’s a design fault.

The reviews (and there are many of them) all point to this flaw in the TDF, but then to make sure they don’t upset Ferrari they wrap it up in the catch all “flawed but genius” mystique.

If you just want a Fanboy reaction head to Ferrari chat. Try reading the Mclaren threads and see what abuse those cars get with respect to reliability. Ferrari get off lightly.

And I also except that flawed is what will probably drive the TDF values to insane market values over the next 20 years - but only if you don’t drive it.

Car looks awesome in yellow. I’d have one over an 812 too, even if you took the financial side of it away. Regardless if the 812 is faster the F12 looks so much better! I’d love to get a normal F12 at some point but not keen on the rear end, something the TDF fixes nicely.

The TDF like the CGT have attained cult status in part due to their reputation as being difficult to drive to us mere mortals. The fact that one needs an extremely high level of driving skill to get the best out of them gives them unique character which is an extremely rare attribute in today's typically nannified society.
They are totally unattainable dream cars for most of us which shouldn't take anything away from Andrew's good fortune in being able to buy and enjoy these special cars. Fair play on him for even bothering to share with us his rather enjoyable car ownership stories.
All the other UK RHD TDF's currently for sale are up for £650k which makes Damon's old one particularly good value as he actually had the courage to put some miles on it.
Say what you like about Mr JWW but his videos on driving his TDF really crystallizes what's so special about them much better than any paid journalist ever could. I'd still fit MP4Ss on it though !.

Amazing that a predominant car chat forum isn’t wholly delighted at a member buying one of the top end limited Ferraris. Looks good Andrew, hope you drive the t1ts off it.

people were discussing driving characteristics of the tdf.

i'm sure Andrew isn't going to be upset as he's driven the car and that's all that matters. values are likely to rise anyway so it's win/win ?

there's an fchat owner who described it:

"I have owned my TDF for almost 3 years now and I can tell you from my experience, the rear wheel steering calibration isn't quite complete. Compared to Porsche's RWS set up, I feel since this was Ferrari's first crack at RWS, and this was an incomplete job. The car is very challenging to drive if you want to go fast both on the street and on the track. The TDF makes the handling of my CGT seem much more predictable biggrin"

also Raikkonen has said that he loves the car and it challenges him, which is a bit nuts considering his skill level!

Here is another perspective from my good friend, who is an ex-formula 1 driver and a Le Man LMP1 winner. He owned the TDF for several years as well:

"Ferrari V12 are great! Yes, I had one myself for a while, it's tricky, quiet tail happy. Too much weight on the front axle and steering ratio is too direct, making it feel insecure and sensitive. Tricky car to drive at the limit!"

also it's known that

WCZ - The OP asked for TDF owners/drivers for feedback, I am sure he has read all of the articles mentioned. If people want to discuss the merits of the car separately why not start another thread, has anyone driven the car? If not why give comments on the driving style etc, some on here are only present to share their venomous barbs rather than constructive comments. Before the main protagonist suggests my toys should be collected from my pram I am thinking of painting that Giallo with a black stripes.

it's a forum, people are going to chime in about various things and some of the statements are relayed from other owners as oppose to being from articles

From a driver’s perspective the car is completely different to an F12 or 812. I could not stop smiling after my test drive yesterday (in the wet too). It’s a car you learn and as you do this, it rewards. An 812 is a great car but you can just get into it and drive it fast.

It fits exactly the cars I already own, and all of them get driven.

Deal done, can’t wait for it to arrive smile

Well, you’ve had it a month now Andrew, how has it been? Have you had the opportunity to put a few miles in?
