Every day tips for living with a 599

A proper chaps day out
Eau Rouge
A dab of 'oppo' at La Source
The car is even trying to fix it's self. Passenger door is now working properly. It opens and locks on the key. TPMS is working intermittently.
But the drivers door still won't lock, the window is dropped and the ODB scanner says it can't see the door. Perfect for the blue skies and hearing that V12.
So after 400 track miles and 4.5 tanks of fuel I had to call it a day by 13:30. Front tyres and brakes were finished. Spa is very hard on the car and I was having too much fun.
Left Front
Front Pads
A quick drive to Nurburgring along beautiful Belgian and German 'A' roads.
To Tyre-Trade-Centre for new fronts.
I think the 599 is going to be retired from all trackdays except Nurburgring and maybe the occasional FOC pista day

Next was RingToys https://www.ringtoys.com/ to service the brakes and change the oil.
Up on the ramp
Pads were definitely finished

The discs aren't looking great either. What's your plan for them? Weigh to check their remaining life or simply replace?Pads were definitely finished

The discs are at end of life and this is the end of the road for them.
So I'm going to replace them with carbobrake Gen 3, 3D continuous weave Carbon Ceramics.
Awesome day
Car is going really well despite the dash warnings. Running in race mode and have managed 24 laps, two and a half tanks.
Have been lowering the hot pressures as recommended by my instructor Ben.
Ben has been giving fantastic instruction, imparting in depth circuit knowledge.
With the changes made to the car she's so much better around the ring than last year but unfortunately still cannot cope with the bumpy sections.

I was at the ring today and briefly spoke to you telling you how much of a hero you are smashing that car around ring and Spa
Only for you to say you’d done 24 laps and were doing tomorrow also !
Absolute god status !

Thank you but I'm just an old fat man
It was a pleasure to meet you also. Are you out again tomorrow also?
At the end of the day the car threw up another fault on the dash, this time 'transmission fluid low'.
I made a quick call to Richard at ringtoys, sounds kind of kinky really and he said he'd fit me despite being very busy with customers from the trackday who were also having issues.
I also called Mark and Lee at MDL for their advice. Quite simple really, top it up!
Took the opportunity to change the battery, unfortunately it didn't resolve the electrical system failure warning message on the dash.
Back on the ramp at ringtoys
Once up on the ramp it was obvious why the transmission fluid low warning was on the dash.
It was leaking oil from somewhere, initial thoughts were gearbox oil from a drive shaft seal due to the location of the oil on the car.
Took the under tray off and it was very worrying
Mark and Lee were beyond helpful, and through a WhatsApp video call we troubleshot the leak.
Turned out to be F1 transmission fluid, venting out of the breather
Mark also pointed out that there's no sensor for gearbox oil level but there is one for F1 transmission.
Unfortunately access to the reservoir requires small, very flexible and dexterous hands. A smallish child would have been perfect!
This is the reservoir location, passenger side
You need to get your hand though the gap between the transaxle and exhaust, swan neck around and remove the cap. Insert a hose. And top up
With Richard's help we redneck engineered a hose and literally blew the fluid in. How do you know when the level is right? You should just be able to touch the fluid with your finger. We simply chose to stop blowing when it blew out the top and onto the floor
Cleaned up as much of the oil as possible. And as per Lee's recommendation we just wiped it off, no brake cleaner as it apparently damages the silicone fittings.
Buttoned everything back up and started the car. No more transmission fluid low warning.
The conclusion is that the F1 fluid boiled over due to heat from the gearbox. This is totally my fault for not giving the car enough cooling down time.
Lesson learnt for tomorrow.
And another item to add to the work list as the F1 system will need to be drained and flushed again.

So today had ended early as the transmission fluid leve lowl warning is up on the dash again. I'll modify the system so that the overflow goes into a catch bottle and not atmosphere. If setup right, as it cools it should draw the fluid back into the reservoir.
I had managed another 14 laps and two and a half tanks of fuel before the car decided to tell me to stop.
Probably a good thing as the pace was picking up and the track getting cooler with weather conditions turning overcast.
So late lunch, a paddock walk and see if I can thumb a passenger ride and enjoy the view.
